A/N: Jerry based off of bitchyass_tacos brother character 'Jerry'
"Why can't you stay here and work today?"
"Dia it's just for the afternoon, IDC went home sick."
Jerry looked up from his phone at the sound of his little brother begging one of his partners from the other room. DC exited his bedroom putting on his full suit with Florida trailing behind him trying desperately to get him to stay.
"But Loui and I have a lot of chaos to do! You'll want to stick around for this." Florida pointed out.
"Would I?" DC teased picking up his discarded mug of coffee from the kitchen island. Florida rocked back and forth on his feet, and Jerry could tell his brain was going through all the motions trying to figure out some way to get him to stay.
"Will you tell Yorkie I'll be home for dinner?" DC asked finishing his coffee and putting the mug back on the counter. He started putting his jacket on, when Florida grabbed his arm, whimpering as he did. DC paused and took Florida's face, kissing him slowly and gently, instantly relaxing the smaller man.
"I promise. I'm coming back." DC whispered. Jerry watched Florida bit his lip, finally letting go of DC and allowing him to put his jacket on. With one final hand on his partner's cheek, DC left, leaving the state alone in the middle of the kitchen.
"You alright Florida?" Jerry asked. Florida nodded, but Jerry could tell he was lying.
"Hey, what's that chaos you and Loui were going to be up to today?" Jerry asked, getting up and approaching his brother.
"It was nothing, I'm going to cancel on him anyway." Florida whispered.
"Why not? You could use some chaos to get your mind off things." Jerry pointed out.
"I think I'll just hang around the house 'till Dee gets back." Florida muttered with a shrug. Jerry looked at his brother in shock.
"Florida, c'mon you can't just stick around the house until DC comes back. You've got five other partners to annoy." Jerry said teasingly hoping it'd break Florida out of his funk.
"If I don't stick around, then he won't come back. If I don't stay in one place, no one comes back." Florida whispered before walking away. Jerry watched his brother leave sadly, old feelings of their childhood bubbling to the surface. He didn't realize the trauma ran that deep.
Jerry knocked on his brother's bedroom door a little while later and peeked his head inside, spotting his brother on the bed sketching. He slipped inside and sat on the edge of Florida's bed, the state more focused on sketching then acknowledging him.
"Wow that's really good." Jerry whispered. Florida nodded and just kept sketching.
"Hey Loui wants to go into town and cause trouble at that Christian bookstore, you should join him." Jerry suggested.
"Too busy." Florida muttered and Jerry sighed.
"Florida....is this because..."
"Y'know I'm pretty sure abandoning your family is against the law somewhere." Florida announced finally looking up at his brother.
"Flo, you know dad did not care about the law." Jerry began.
"Yeah well he still should've been beaten up for what he did." Florida said crossing his arms.
"I know you're hurting, but just because someone leaves doesn't mean they won't come back." Jerry pointed out.
"You didn't." Florida said, making Jerry sigh.
"I deserved that." Jerry muttered looking down. "I left you alone for the longest time."
"You were the one who promised you wouldn't leave, and you did." Florida pointed out glaring daggers at his brother.
"I was just doing what I thought was right, what dad said to do." Jerry explained. "I realize now it was wrong, but just because your family left doesn't mean anyone you know will."
"I can't take that risk anymore. One day Dee, or Loui, or....or Cali, Tex, Yorkie, they might leave and just...." Florida swallowed the lump in his throat, tears burning in his eyes.
"They won't leave you." Jerry whispered wrapping an arm around Florida's shoulders. "They've been with you this long, they won't leave you."
"You all deserve better than me." Florida whispered and Jerry was taken aback at how low Florida thought of himself. He knew the family leaving Florida had affected him, but he didn't know how bad it was. Jerry bit his lip and rubbed Florida's arm before speaking again.
"Anyone who leaves you is missing out on how wonderful a person you are." Jerry announced and Florida picked his head up in shock. "And that includes me, I should've never listened to dad. I should've stayed, and I'm sorry." Florida didn't say a word, he just full-forced hugged his brother, finally letting the tears flow. Jerry knew this didn't fix years of abandonment, but it was a start to repairing their relationship.
"Do....do you want to come with me and Loui?" Florida sniffered trying to wipe his eyes. Jerry smiled and hugged his brother tight.
"I'd love to."
In a day that could only be described as chaos (Jerry could only stand back in shock as Louisiana and Florida worked their magic), the highlight was when DC came home, tired and battered after a long day but still happy when Florida dove into his arms and wouldn't let go. Jerry knew Florida wasn't fully healed, and his abandonment issues would rear its ugly head again, but they were healing. Spain couldn't control them anymore.
And just hearing the happy noises Florida made as he nuzzled DC's face, and DC laughing and kissing him, let Jerry know this relationship, and Florida's relationship with his other partners, was part of the healing process.
