"Do you have any regrets?"

"I can't do this! I can't meet the states! This was a mistake."

"For Christ sake DC, just cancel then."

DC looked up from his notes at the faces of his boyfriends all gathered around his office. Sometimes late at night while he worked, one boyfriend would join, which would prompt another boyfriend, and soon the entire office would be filled. California was lounging on the floor with his Switch, leaning on Texas who was sitting in the only other chair in the office strumming his guitar. New York was scrolling through his phone leaning against the bookcase, while Louisiana and Florida planned out chaos in front of DC's desk.

Usually they all remained quiet, lost in their individual tasks, but tonight all eyes were on DC as they waited for him to answer the question.

"Regrets?" DC asked softly.

"Do you regret....coming here? Meeting us for the first time?" Florida continued.

"Here's the numbers from Texas, New York, Florida, Louisiana, and California."

"Thanks Washington."

"..............."

"HOLY SHIT."

"Where did this come from?" DC whispered as California got up, approaching his boyfriend.

"Well. It's been a full year." California explained and DC's eyes went wide. It had been a full year hasn't it, since DC first started the meetings. He could remember clearly getting the numbers from Washington from the five and realizing how bad they were, finally saying he'd start the meetings he'd been putting off for decades, and coming to a small house in the middle of Orlando to meet the states with the highest COVID numbers.

March 30, 2020, when his life changed forever.

"The house is pretty nice IDC, not too big, not too small...."

"It's a shithole isn't it."

"IDC I'm trying to be nice!"

"............"

"It kind of is."

DC shook his head with a soft smile. "Nah. No regrets." DC whispered before attempting to go back to his work.

"Really? None?" New York asked.

"Why should I have regrets?" DC asked, genuinely confused.

"Think about it Dee." Florida began, leaning on DC's desk. "You left your cushy office and house in Washington to live in the backwoods swamp of Florida with five states who you're also dating. And you're saying you have no regrets?"

"Bryan, I made it to Orlando...."

"Yeah whatever DC, all my dinners are pre-made right?"

"....Yes."

"Great. Call me when you're done or whatever." *Click*

"I promise, I have no regrets on how this past year turned out." DC said with a smile, reaching over and taking Florida's hand.

"Why." Texas demanded staying up.

"What?"

"Why don't you have any regrets? Like Florida said, you had a good life back in Washington and you left it for us. There has to be a reason." Texas pointed out.

"I have to do something, these numbers are out of control."

"Well you could always...."

"No. I....I can't do that."

"DC.....you were supposed to run the meetings years ago."

"I...I can't.....I'm not ready."

DC sighed and sat back in his chair, looking at the faces of his five boyfriends who were waiting for an answer.

"The reason is." DC began. "I may have had a cushy life back in Washington, but I was miserable. Everyday day in and day out I did the same thing; I woke up, I tried to get my ex to love me, went to work, dealt with snot-nosed politicians everyday, came home to make dinner by myself with my ex cheated, then went to bed. Nothing changed." The fed sighed and looked down at his hands, hating himself that tears were beginning to cloud his vision.

"I....I didn't know I could have friends. I....I didn't know I could have people that cared about me. I....I didn't know what love was."

"So you're sure they're going to come Washington?"

"DC I talked to them during dinner, they'll be there. They're not happy, but they'll be there."

"Good. I don't want my first meeting to be a no-show."

"And then....five states came tumbling through that door, pissed that you had to sit through a meeting." DC said with a soft smile finally looking up. "It took some time, a lot of time, and a lot of help, but....I realized I couldn't live without you guys."

"You dumped one abusive asshole for five. Some might say that's overcompensating." New York teased making DC chuckle.

"You five were worth five of him put together. And I mean that." DC announced.

"Just get the meeting done with and come home, that's all you need to do."

"But what if it goes bad?"

"Then you won't have to see them for months afterward."

"And yeah, the house is a bit crappy, and living in Florida is....weird to say the least." DC said with a shrug. "But I'd trade this over Washington anyday."

"You really mean it darling?" Louisiana asked getting up and standing to the side of DC. "No regrets?"

"No regrets." DC said smiling softly before Louisiana bent down and captured his lips in a kiss.

"You know what this means." Florida announced slapping his hands on the desk. "Ice cream! And I'm paying!"

"Puddin', did you steal Michigan's wallet again?" Texas asked as California helped DC up.

"Nah I learned my lesson from last time." Florida said with a laugh as the boyfriends began filing out.

"This is Utah's."

DC glanced up at the door opening and smiled at the states gathered in the doorway. There was one in a large oversized coat and orange beanie, one in a purple flannel with the same orange beanie, one in a flamingo hat and a tank, one in a Tiger's jersey and fishing hat, and one in a red shirt with a cowboy hat on. They were all staring at the fed in shock, like they hadn't seen another person before. DC just smiled.

"Good morning, you must be California, Texas, New York, Louisiana, and Florida." DC announced holding out his hand. "I'm DC, it's nice to meet you."
