Context: You never learned how to read or write growing up, so you were struggling with the tests and quizzes in the Devildom. You tried your best to hide your secret, but one day, Satan stumbled upon you trying to teach yourself to read. . .

In this particular chapter: The reader is illiterate.

💚

(M|n) gnawed on his lower lip hard as he stared down at his blank quiz paper. He felt sick to his stomach, already imagining Lucifer's reaction when he was told that once again, he hadn't even tried to attempt the Devildom work. There was a reason why he never wrote anything. It was because. . . He was illiterate. The male didn't know how to read nor how to write. Never once in his life had he picked up a pen.

He was currently trying to teach himself to read, but it was a real struggle for him. The majority of the books in the House of Lamentation's vast library didn't give advice on ways that a person could learn to read or write.

He was not telling any of the brothers about his illiteracy. He always felt. . . Ashamed that he couldn't read or write like others. His upbringing was vastly different to those of his peers who were around the same age as him. His parents had a strong belief that education wasn't worth the stress, and that it would be much more useful if (M|n) learnt practical skills, that would help him in a perfect, labour-intensive job. Whenever his parents were told by others that their ways were a thing of the past, they always argued against it, but it was true.

(M|n) wasn't allowed to enrol into a public school, so all he could do throughout his entire childhood was watch other children his age being given access to whatever they wanted, whilst (M|n) worked hard with his father.

The day that he was taken from the human world was the day that he had been planning to run away from his parents. When he first arrived in the Devildom, he was terrified. Anyone would be if they were suddenly thrust into a world filled with demons. But surprisingly, the human adjusted to life in the Devildom quite quickly. At first he was able to hide the fact that he didn't know how to read or write. . . Then he was informed that he'd have to attend a high school for demons, and like any other school, it required reading and writing.

(M|n) glared at the paper, wishing that he could use a spell to make letters appear. He picked up his pen, attempting to write a letter. He failed miserably. Instead, his pen trembled as it made contact with the blank question sheet and made a dark blotch.

With a frustrated sigh, he put his pen down and buried his face into his hands.

💚 Satan's POV 💚

Satan couldn't help but notice (M|n) crumbling into despair just a few seats in front of him. The human acted like this every single time they had a potion exam or quiz. Satan wondered why (M|n) constantly rejected his help, despite the fact that he was showing clear signs that he didn't understand what he was supposed to do.

All the blonde demon wanted to do was give (M|n) as much aid as he possibly could. . . He frowned, continuing to stare absentmindedly at the human. How could he convince the other that he just wanted to help him?. . .

Satan held a pile of books as he head towards the personal library. He had just finished a very interesting book about art, and he wanted to see if there was any other books that he hadn't read yet relating to it.

He whistled to himself as he stopped at the library door, numerous books at hand. It wasn't unusual to see the demon down here so late. He lost track of time many times when he got absorbed into a book.
