Luke stared at himself in his mirror. His beautiful blue irises were shining with excitement. Today was the day. He was finally going to become a guardian angel, after all these years. . . He pondered upon what his human would be like.
He was one of the lucky angels who were able to take on this job. Not all angels in the Celestial Realm had guardian angel blood. Luke and Simeon were in the sparse population of the angels who had the potential to be guardian angels.
They weren't forced into the roles. They were able to make the choice themselves whether they wanted to risk protecting a human. Risk. You wonder why I mention risk? Well, there was a lot on the line when angels became guardians.
They had to abide by many strict rules, and if even one rule was broken, they were instantly barred from re-entering the human world, and they were cursed by the elders.
The most-known rule was the one about love. . . Guardian angels were not allowed to fall for the human they were assigned to protect. If they do in-fact fall for them, then their powers are permanently repressed, meaning the angel would live the rest of eternity in the form of a child, without any way to change themselves back.
Luke jumped when his door opened. Curiously, he turned to look, wondering who it was that had let themselves into his room. He grinned widely when it was just Simeon. The duo had become close and hardly spent time away from each other.
Luke had to admit, he was going to miss Simeon. . . Not like he'd say that out loud though! That would be way too embarrassing for him to say. . . Simeon lent against his wall, an eyebrow raised. He appeared concerned.
Luke tilted his head to the side, staring in wonder. "What is it, Simeon?" He queried. Simeon sighed and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Are you sure you want to become a guardian angel, even though you know the many risks it poses?" Simeon always showed concern for him, and Luke appreciated that. But he would not be deterred by these so-called risks.
His mother had been a guardian angel. He wanted to follow in her footsteps. As of right now, she was protecting yet another human to the best of her ability. Never once had she broken a rule. How hard could it be?
He clenched his hands into determined fists. "Of course I want to become one! I know what I shouldn't do. I won't fall in love at all, I just know it. How has my mother been a guardian angel for so long?" Luke exclaimed as he bounded over to his door. Simeon let out a groan.
"Your mother had your father, Luke, and. . . Falling in love may seem complex, but it can actually be quite easy, and for you, dangerous. . ." Luke shook his head, a small smile on his lips.
"As I said, I'll be fine." Luke suddenly reached out and hugged Simeon tight. The black-haired angel tensed for a moment before relaxing in his arms. He returned his embrace.
"Are you going to miss me?" Simeon chuckled. Luke blushed furiously and gently shoved Simeon away.
"N-No. . . Okay, I'll miss you, but only a little bit. Not too much." Luke muttered as he turned and hurried out of his room. Simeon, in quick strides, managed to join his friend at his side.
"Well, just know Luke, I'll miss you a whole lot. Your baking has only been improving. Maybe you could learn some recipes from the human world that you can bring back here and make for us angels on your return?" Simeon questioned softly, a hint of melancholy hanging in his voice.
