An Early Visit

Big Red's POV

Almost 2 hours after school ended, I called Ashlyn. She had eventually decided to tell me what her mom said, because she had only gotten more stressed as the day went on. Plus, calling her was a nice excuse to stop doing homework.

"How'd it go?" I asked her when she picked up.

"Alright." Ashlyn simply said.

"So what happened?" I asked hesitantly, hoping she was fine with talking about it.

"They, er, told me my mom was pregnant." She said with an awkward look on her face.

"Do you feel weird about that?"

"I don't know. It's shocking. I graduate high school in 2 years, and they'll be be nearly 1. It's a weird age gap."

I nodded. "I'm sure you'll like them, though."

She nodded quickly. "Yeah, yeah, I'm sure I will."

I heard my mom call me downstairs. "Uh, Ash, I gotta go. Still coming over at 6?" She nodded and hung up. I walked downstairs, curious as to what was happening.

"Oh, there you are." My mom said. "Help me clean up, Madeline's coming Wednesday." Madeline was my cousin, and it was, of course (since it was the first day back), Monday. I nodded and started to help her clean up.

Right as I finished cleaning, someone rang the doorbell. I opened it to 3 people. Madeline, my aunt, and Ashlyn.

"Uh, hi everyone." I waved. My aunt gave me a hug, which I returned. I awkwardly invited everyone in. I hadn't seen Madeline in 2 years, and she was immediately being introduced to my girlfriend. "Mom! Madie and Aunt Amelia are here!" I shouted to my mom, who was upstairs.

As everyone waited for her to come downstairs, I hugged Ashlyn and gently kissed her cheek.

"Hi." We both said in unison, which made her smile, which made me smile.

My mom came downstairs. "Madeline, you've grown so much!" It's so weird when people say that. Of course she would grow in 2 years. She hugged both my cousin and my aunt. They all walked to the guest room to get Madeline settled in.

"Sorry about everybody here. I didn't know Madie would be here. She's the cousin moving in. She was supposed to be coming Wednesday."

"Nah, it's fine." Ashlyn shrugged. "I would meet them soon enough. Only downside is not hanging out with only you."

My face turned a little red. "Okay. Fair warning, though, Madeline has a really tough exterior. And sometimes interior."

"I'm sure she's great." Ashlyn hugged me again, and I hugged her back. "She's in your family." My face reddened more, and we stood in silence for a moment.
