Big Red's POV

Saturday morning Ashlyn and I took a walk. I could still hardly believe she was back. It had only been a few weeks, but I had really missed her. I don't think either of us could stop smiling.

"Do the others know you're back yet?" I asked her, breaking a moment of comfortable silence.

"Nope. I'll see them later." She said. I nodded.

"Okay. Sounds good."

"Big Red?" Ashlyn stopped walking and turned to me, making a thoughtful face that worried me.

"Yeah?"

"Can you see us having a future together?" She asked.

"I mean..." I blushed. "Y- Yeah."

"Really?" I could tell she was trying not to get her hopes up.

"I mean... I love you."

"I love you too." Ashlyn hugged me tightly.

"Are you alright?" I hugged her back, just as tight.

"I'm just... a little confused, worried, and— just that kind of thing."

"We can talk."

"Can we?" She asked. I nodded. We started walking again. "Do you ever just wonder if you have communication issues with someone?"

"Like what?"

"Uh... um... honestly, my only example is us. I..." Ashlyn turned red. "It's hard to think we're on the same page. I love you. You tell me you love me."

"I do."

"I know. But... I really love you. And you could just really like me, or love means a different thing to you."

"I don't think it does." I frowned.

"Okay... but don't tons of couples think they love each other before they end up apart? Especially in high school." She came to a stop. "I just think I actually love you. Like, forever..." She trailed off, more red coming into her cheeks.

"You never really know, yeah... but I love you, and it feels like it'll be for forever."

"What if's just really scare me." Ashlyn said. "Not to mention... I've got about two years left in high school. Am I just... never going to be here? I don't think moving's really sunk in yet."

"Oh don't worry about that..." I didn't know what to say. "It's worked before for people... plus you'll be able to drive soon, right?"

"I guess."

"Anything else?"

"I don't know. Thank you." Ashlyn kissed my cheek. "You always know what to say."

"Not really..."

"Well, you always say the right thing." She hugged me.
