The Visit Continues (And Gets Much More Awkward)

Ashlyn's POV

I found it a little awkward I was meeting more of Big Red's family today, but it wasn't too bad. I leaned in to the hug we were sharing, going on my toes to be a bit taller. We almost kissed(which still gave me butterflies even though we kissed a fair amount), but everyone walked back downstairs.

"Oh, Ashlyn, hello!" Big Red's mom greeted me.

"Hello." I waved.

"This is Madeline. She's a sophomore too, you might be in some classes together." She told me, and I nodded. "Big Red, you 3 should catch up. We're going to grab some food." He nodded and sat on the couch as both Big Red's mom and aunt left. Madeline sat on one side of him, and I sat on the other side.

"This is Ashlyn." He gestured to me. "Um, and you know, this is Madeline."

"Nice to meet you." I waved.

"Same." She replied. "So how do you know each other?"

"Theatre." We said together.

"Since when do you do theatre? I thought you didn't like musicals. We agreed they made no sense. And the music's so... weird."

"It was a whole thing last semester." Big Red said. The story was long, so it made sense he didn't explain it in depth.

"But, uh, you kinda like musicals now right?" I asked. I didn't actually know, but I thought he did.

"They're not bad. The tech's really fun though." He said. I smiled and nodded, then rested my chin on his shoulder. He put his arm around me and I smiled more.

"Wait. Are you two dating?" Madeline asked us. We both nodded. "Oh."

"Um, yeah." I was really confused. Madeline was acting really weird. She did have a tough exterior, because she was not displaying much emotion. If I had to identify one, it wouldn't be a positive one. I whispered into Big Red's ear. "Is this weird or normal?" He shrugged. This was so awkward.

"Madeline?" Big Red piped up. "Wanna watch a movie?" She shrugged, so he put one on. After about 10 minutes of watching it, Madeline grabbed the remote. She went back to pick out a new movie. I found it weird she didn't ask, but didn't really care. She put on a different movie.

It took me awhile to realize it would be a bit of a horror movie. I hid my eyes with my hands. Big Red moved them, which disappointed me slightly, until he nudged my head on his shoulder. "It's okay, but I can change it if you want." He whispered.

"No it's fine." I mumbled lazily. He grabbed a blanket and put it over us, and I almost forgot Madeline was there. I hugged him as we watched the movie. Well, while he and Madeline were. I kept my head in his shoulder the whole time.

We made it halfway through the movie before Big Red's parents and aunt got back. I assumed his dad met his mom and aunt wherever they ate. Big Red paused the movie. I was half asleep. Luckily, as I knew this would be awkward, EJ showed up to pick me up. He texted me he was there, and I sat up straight with a yawn.

"See you at school." I got up to leave. He followed me onto his porch.

"See you then." We shared a quick kiss, then I ran to EJ's car.
