Ashlyn's POV

I biked home, listening to a podcast. I made my way inside. "I'm home!" I said. When I told Big Red I would talk to my parents about dating again (which I had already been doing), I had started talking to them normally again. It felt great.

"Hi." My mom waved.

"Mom?" I asked, brushing hair out of my face.

"Yes?"

"I know I've been, like, begging for awhile, but can we just... actually sit down and talk about Big Red?"

"This weekend, your father will be here. It's a decision we made together." She said.

"Okay." I nodded. "I'm gonna go study."

"Okay sweetie."

"See you later." I ran upstairs and into my room, going to my desk to study. After about 30 minutes, I was ready for a break. I went to the local coffee shop, of course running into my favorite person I couldn't talk to. "Hi."

"Hey." Big Red laughed under his breath.

"What?" I smiled.

"We constantly run into each other."

"Small world?"

"Nope, I'm pretty sure it's the fact we always went everywhere together. I didn't drink coffee before I tried it with you." He smiled.

"Yeah." I nodded. "I like this." I sat down with my drink. "Sit with me." He sat across from me with his drink.

"What do you like?"

"The bumping into each other. Like... bumping into an old friend. No one can say we meant to meet up." I took a sip of my coffee.

"Old friend?"

"Oh shut up." I rolled my eyes. "I'm working on it."

"It's been better not avoiding each other though, hasn't it?"

"Yeah." I smiled.

"So, whatcha been up to?"

"Studying, you?"

"I was with Ricky for awhile."

"Sounds fun." I smiled.

Why did his smile alone make me smile?

"Studying... doesn't."

"It's not too bad, but I did come here for a break." I explained. "How have you been recently?"

"Good other than... you know..."

"Yeah, same." I nodded. "I miss you too."

"But I'm kinda over the initial shock of it all, so I've been feeling a bit better."

"Me too." I smiled at him.

"To be clear, that in no way means I'm over you."

"I know. I'm not either."

"Good."

"Good." I agreed.
