Ashlyn's POV
As you'd assume, being away from someone you love is extremely difficult. A few days wouldn't have been that bad, if there wasn't the looming dread that this could last for another year or two.
Because of this, anytime I saw Big Red, I avoided him. I could tell he was doing the same, but it was obvious we were both stealing glances at each other.
It also caused me to be icing out my parents. Yes, it was rude, but I hardly felt bad about it. I talked to my mom the small amount I had to, but since my dad was back in Nevada I hadn't called him.
"Something going on with you and Big Red?" Gina asked me, concerned. "You haven't been sitting with him for the past few days."
"Oh, uh, we broke up."
"Why? Did he break up with you? That—"
"Chill, we agreed on it." I told her, biting my lip. The truth felt wrong to tell. "It's fine."
"You're staring at him."
"Just getting used to things." I looked at her instead. "It really is fine, okay?" I said, annoyed.
I blame my lineage for how I get when I'm upset, specifically feeling threatened. I, of course, try to control it, but it comes out sometimes.
"Okay..."
"Sorry, but it is." I forced a smile.
"You know I don't believe you."
"I will be fine, soon."
"Ashlyn, dinner!" I heard my mom call up the stairs. I put down my pencil, pausing my work, and went downstairs.
"Thanks." I sat down to eat, the plates already full and on the table. I ate without a word.
"You long are you gonna do this?"
"Do what?"
"You say about 50 words to me a day."
"I'm doing it until I can say any words to the love of my life, Mom." I said, putting down my plate in the sink. "And I don't mean to be rude, I really don't, I'm just upset and I'm mad."
"It's coming off rude, and it is rude."
"Mom, I love him."
"Yes, you've been saying that, but your father and I had an agreement and we're standing by it."
"I have more homework to do." I shook my head and walked back to my room. I didn't sit at my desk, instead at the edge of my bed. "Don't cry... don't cry... he wouldn't want you crying over him... don't..." it didn't work. "Stop crying... it's fine... he's waiting for you, he won't move on, it's only... a matter of time..."
