Ashlyn's POV

"Shut up already." I mumbled to myself, shoving my face into my pillow as I tried to drown out my parents. My dad comes home once and they're already fighting.

I was lying in my bed. Until a few minutes ago, I was scrolling on my phone and listening to music, but I finally gave up.

"This is so stupid." I shook my head and walked downstairs. A silence fell over my parents.

"Yes?" My mom asked.

"Nothing." I said briefly, running out the front door.

"Where are you going?" My dad asked.

"Big Red's place. If there's one thing I know, it's that he won't yell. Sure, maybe he'd be in an argument, but he'd stop." I ranted, accidentally slamming the door behind me. I shoved my earbuds in my ears, turned on music, and made my way to Big Red's as quickly as I could.

"Hey Ash!" He ran over to me, smiling, when I got there. His family, including Madeline, had already been outside.

"Hey." I hugged him. "So, uh, what are you guys up to?"

"Some family thing."

"Alright. I should probably head home anyways."

"You okay?"

"Bad mood." I shrugged. "Get back to your family, looks like they're leaving."

"But what's wrong?"

"Nothing I haven't mentioned. Parents."

"I'm sorry. I love you." He hugged me again.

"I love you too." I kissed his cheek. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"You alright?"

"I think I just needed to get out of the house. Fresh air."

"Okay. Bye." He walked back over to his family.

"Yep, bye." I thought for a moment, then walked to EJ's house. I knocked on the door and he answered.

"Oh, hey. What're you doing here?"

"Mom and Dad are fighting and Big Red's busy." I walked inside and sat down. "Had no idea where else to go."

"Want something to drink?" EJ asked. I shook my head and he sat by me. "I know I wasn't your first choice, but you can always come over, wether you wanna talk or not."

"Thank you." I hugged him. "That means a lot. Especially from someone who... kinda always has to be in my life."

"Hm?"

"There's just no fear someone will mess us up. We're family."

"Uh... okay?"

"Never mind. It just means a lot." I said.

"Of course." He smiled, then grabbed the TV remote and passed it to me. "Put on whatever, including horrible quality Broadway bootlegs."

"My favorite." I laughed softly. "Thanks again." I hugged him again.
