Gravestones

There once was a boy
Who never fit in
The people were cruel
And he wore too thin

He gave up, he was done
He couldn't continue
There was nothing left
Nothing he could do

So one day he said
"Goodbye," forever
And then he was gone
Like a change in the weather

They were all shocked
By this turn of events
He must have been sad
Most likely depressed

They cried and mourned
For the kid once he died
But not once in his life
Had they taken his side

They glorified death
Made it even romantic
They discarded the truth
Disregarded semantics

At the same time
Someone else was leaving
But no one cared enough
to really be grieving

Once he was glorified
And at the same time, scorned
For he was in a position
Where he was adorned

With fame comes hate
And he was fighting it
But it was getting harder
To keep on hiding it

He was falling, crashing
Down to the ground
Then he fell through the floor
With a great sound

And everyone gasped
And averted their eyes
For how could he do this?
It was such a surprise

And yet he had said
Long, long before
That things were too much
For him to take any more

And still, they asked,
"How could he go
If he's got everything?
I'll mourn for a kid
But won't cry for a king."

Inspired by Neon Gravestones by Twenty One Pilots. One of my favorite songs. The last bit in quotations is taken directly from the song.
