ZOE'S POV
About two weeks have passed and ever since then I can say that my friendship with my friends has been stronger than before, I have also known Dave much better. "That's enough fries for me guys. I'm stuffed." I say pushing the tray of food away. "Same here, I've had enough." Dave comments. "Okay" Sammy shrugs her shoulders as she takes fries from my tray and shoving them in her mouth. I want some ice pop from the tuck shop, who else wants some?" Dave asks, already standing up. "Just count us all." Sammy says.
"Can I walk you to the tuck shop?" Linda requests to Dave. "Can I take Zoe with me instead, there's something I want to discuss with her." After Dave's statement, a mixture of disappointment and pain is prominent on Linda's face. Sammy and I look at each other for a nanosecond before I mutter "Okay" feeling uneasy with the tension around. Dave and I disappear from sight.
"That was not cool." "What was not cool?" He asks as if confused. "You know what I'm talking about." I say and he raises his eyebrow, wanting me to speak out the obvious. "You being rude to Linda" "Was I? I didn't notice." He says blankly and I stop him by grabbing his hand. "Dave you seriously have to stop this. You acting like you don't care about her while you give the most fucks. Just tell her how you feel that's all." I say firmly to him. "Zoe I just can't okay! What if she rejects me or what if she isn't looking for a relationship? Wait! How do you know I like her?" He asks, trailing off and I chuckle at his question before replying.
"I knew the first day you came to us but I removed those thoughts from my mind thinking maybe my brain was too forward but when time went by I observed how you behaved around her and that's when I was certain you liked her." I explain to Dave. "What? But I tried to push my feelings away. That means she also knows that I'm into her." He implies with concern as he begins to walk slowly again and I follow suite. "She doesn't, she probably thinks you hate her due to your attitude towards her." I say as we arrive at the tuck shop.
"How can I help you?" The attendant asks. "Can I have four ice pops please." Dave says, retrieving his money from his pocket. "Colours?" "Mixed please" I say. "So if she thinks I hate her, how do you know I'm into her?" Dave queries with a perplexed look evident on his face. "My mom once said that when you hate or pretend to hate a person for no reason that's when you know you love them the most but you just keep suppressing your feelings towards them." I explain. "Do I like her that much?" "Of course you do, just find the courage to tell her." "I can't Zoe, I am afraid of rejection." He sighs. "You never know if you don't try. All I know is that she likes you too." I say; a smirk prominent on my face as I wink at him.
"Here are your ice pops" the attendant says as she comes back with four of them in hand. "Thank you" I say. "Uhm hello! Your change" she yells. "Keep it" Dave says to her and I'm not surprised at all. "So she likes me, you say?" He states more of a question as he smiles. "I don't remember saying that." "Yeah right" he drinks the ice pop. "So all along you've been the observant" he hits the back of my head so hard. "Ouch!" I scream, attempting to hit back but suddenly being stopped by his hand. "You know I love you right my chommie?" He says in a funny voice, placing his hand on my shoulders. "You are so dramatic" I laugh at him as we continue walking back to our table. We arrive with the ice pops. "Here guys" I hand them one each. "Thank you" "Thanks" they acknowledge.
"Next time Linda you go with Dave because I honestly can't stand girls staring at me." I say and Sammy laughs. "I'd also stare, remember you were walking with the rich white boy whose a new comer and probably every girl's crush currently." Sammy jokes. "Samantha stop it." Dave blushes as he talks. "Mark my last word, currently." Sammy emphasises and rolls her eyes. "Would you stop making it seems like Dave is the president's son or something." Linda yells, causing us all to stare at her in confusion. "I'm sorry" she says, walking away from us. "What was all that about?" Sammy questions and Dave shrugs his shoulders. "I'll go check on her." I announce and chase after Linda.
I found her and she confessed her feelings on Dave but she was even happier when I told her that the reason Dave acts the way he does towards her is because he feels the same way too.
School knocks off and I arrive home, doing my school work and studying late too. I close my note book, feeling sleepy already and ready to sleep. My phone rings immediately after I get into bed; I get hold of it and identify the caller ID - Mike. I instantly sit up straight and pick up "Hey baby" I say, my smile spreading slowly over my face. "Don't baby me. You think just because I'm not around it makes it okay for you to cheat on me." He says; his voice fierce. "Mike what's up? What are you talking about?" I query in confusion. "The white boy you're cheating with. You know damn well what I'm talking about!" He shouts with anger filling his voice. "White boy?" I trail off and quick to release that he's talking about Dave.
"So now you're having people spying on me at school...wait somebody might be watching me right now. You're unbelievable." I release a bitter chuckle after my statement. "What is he to you? Since you all take walks around the school." "That was the first question you were supposed to ask before jumping into conclusions. You can find out yourself, just tell your sources to do a much better job next time because they have clearly failed you." I say, my voice rising up a notch and hang up.
.....
The following morning I recieve a message from Mike apologising about what happened yesterday. This is our first fight ever since we got back together, I'm not really mad at his jealousy but I'm mad at the fact that he sent people to spy on me. I don't reply to his messages to show him that I don't tolerate what he did. I arrive at school and the lessons are beginning to be hard now.
"Your boyfriend is crazy, wish I could meet him sooner." Dave shakes his head as he laughs at what I've just told them. "You don't want to meet him." Linda says nonchalantly. "I'll see you guys later I have to catch up with Thabang." Dave announces. "So now you are ditching us up because you made a new friend." Sammy says. "For once would you not complain about anything, besides you guys are girls." Dave voices out. "What's wrong with us being girls?" I ask. "Come on Zoe. You know what I mean." "I'm kidding, later then." I say and he departs from us.
