ZOE'S POV
FRIDAY EVENING
It's 19:20pm and Mike hasn't arrived for dinner. Mom and I have outdone ourselves for tonight. The table is covered with enough food. "Maybe you should call him and check if he's still coming or not." Mom suggests, I think she noticed I've been checking the time on my phone. "No let's wait ten more minutes, if he doesn't show up we call it a night." I sigh. Seven minutes later the doorbell makes a sound twice. Mom and I glance at each other before I stand up to get the door. I open the door and guess who it is?
Mike, yes you guessed right.
He's standing at the doorway holding a bottle of wine. "Yey you have arrived." I say in a sarcastic tone giving him my huge fakest grin. "I'm sorry Zoe I nearly forgot I have dinner."
"Of course you did." "May I come in?" Mike kindly asks. I don't reply to him instead I open the door wide for Mr Romantic to enter.
"Good evening Elizabeth. I sincerely apologize for being late." Mike apologies. "No need to be all formal Mike, take a seat." Mom offers. "I bought you red wine that's for being late." Mike says as he takes a seat. "Is non-alcoholic." He adds. I take it he noticed mom's facial expression changes.
"That's sweet of you Mike, thank you." Mom replies with a grin taking over her features. We begin digging in our plates as mom interrogates Mike about his family. Mike informs her that his father is a golfer, he owns a golf course too while his mom is a radiotherapist.
"Seems like your family is loaded." Mom comments, I shoot her a stare. "Yes it is, the golf course makes about fifteen million per year." I see mom's jaw drops. They continue having their boring conversation while I on the other hand I'm too busy with food to entertain them, until something caught my attention when I lifted up my head to look at Mike. I stare at him until he notices. I have lost my appetite.
"After high school what do you want to study?" Mike rubs his fingers around his neck. "I'm not sure yet, I'll see." He answers mom while glancing at me. I clear my throat and stand up. I hear footsteps following me; he knew he was in trouble already. I head outside. "Babe what's wrong? I saw you staring at me as if I've committed a crime?" He gets closer to I. "Why were you late for dinner?" "Come on Zoe, that's the reason you mad?" He says it more of a statement than a question. I continue giving him a dead glare. "I was busy with school work." He lies.
"Tell me the real reason Mike." I say with my eyebrows arched. "I'm lost now, what's wrong?" He questions with concern. "Explain the love bite on your neck." "It's not a love bite, I got sting by a bee." He lies more. "That's an understatement of the century." I say and roll my eyes, he chuckles.
"Mike I know you were with her, that's the reason you even forgot about dinner." "I didn't forget, I'm here right now." He tries joking, not funny. "You still have time for jokes while I'm being serious." I shout. "Okay babe I apologize, she did come to my place to fetch some school work. We didn't do anything I swear." He gets closer to I, grabbing my hands. He really looks convincing, like he's telling the truth. For a moment I almost fall for his lies.
"Then how did you get the love bite?" I give him a serious look. "She forced herself on me, we kissed only. I almost got tempted into sleeping with her but I rejected her." Mike says and I believe him. I don't know why but I do. He's always convincing. We head back inside and soon he acknowledges mom for inviting him over for dinner then departs.
(Do you think Mike is telling the truth? Well we'll see... can I get your thoughts on Mike. Comment and vote please)
