ZOE'S POV
As Mr Nkalanga requested that Sammy and I should be in the principal's office after assembly, here am I standing nervously at the doorway with Linda trying to calm down my nerves. "It's time I go to class, you'll be fine right?" She queries with concern. I snort before answering her "I will, thank you." I reply with a soft voice and we engulf in a hug then watch her retreating figure disappears in my line of vision. I take a deep breath before knocking nervously into the principal's office.
"Come in" Mr Krishna answers briefly as I make my way towards his desk and his eyes land into a nervous me after shifting his attention from the paper work on the table. "Oh Miss Jackson, you can be seated please." He offers, using his hand to point to the chair in front of his desk "Thank you sir." I acknowledge his generosity. Principal Krishna can be intimidating based on his physical features yet on the inside he is generous sometimes but he prefers to be strict at most cases so learners can offer him the respect he deserves.
"I see you came alone, where is Miss Smith?" He questions, staring into my eyes. "I haven't seen her sir, I think she's still on her way." I reply nervously. "Okay we'll wait a few minutes for her to arrive then we'll begin our meeting." He informs me as he continues to check the paper work in his hand. At this point I feel annoyed coming for such a meeting at the principal's office while I'm an A student, I hope this is the first and last time. "Miss Jackson I think I should begin since it seems like Miss Smith won't be joining us." The principal says, staring at his watch in hand and bring my mind back to reality.
For what feels like eternity, Samantha makes her way in, running into the office as the principal was about to speak. I chuckle at the unbelievable behavior she just pulled, running into the principal's office looking like she just woke up.
"Sorry I'm late." She says through her breathes as she's trying to gasp for air. I gaze at her with hostility eyes. "Take a seat, arriving late on your first day as a senior is an irresponsible behavior." The principal states in an authoritative tone and I witness Samantha narrowing her eyes. "It won't happen again Sir." She says then finally throws me a glance but I manage to keep a neutral facial expression, I'm the first to break the tension between us by shifting my gaze from her to the principal.
The principal begins talking once our attention is shifted towards him. "I'm well aware of what's been happening on social media during the holidays and I know it didn't take place at the school premises but it still involves us since you are now seniors of the school. Such behaviour cannot be condoned especially amongst the seniors, what example are you displaying to the lower grades?" He questions in an angry tone. "Maybe I should call a meeting with your parents." He suggests after a moment of silence and I begin to speak softly "Sir I am sincerely sorry I assure you that such behaviour won't happen ever again whether in or outside the school premises but please just don't call our parents." I trail off on the last part of the sentence and Samantha comments. "Please sir this was a mistake, don't call our parents." I look at her in incredulity, a mistake?
The principal releases a snort then speaks "Fine but such behaviour won't be tolerated ever again. Clear?" He states in an authoritative tone and I nod my head along with Samantha in agreement. "Yes sir" "Focus on your studies, this year we want 100% pass rate like in the previous years. The 98% was not enough from our last years' seniors. You may go to class." He says in a dismissive tone and we stand on our feet, bumping into each other by the doorway. I stare at Samantha with a malicious look and she offers me an apologetic look before she decides to move her feet, retreating from my presence. "Miss Jackson" the principal calls as I was about to step out of his office, I instantly pause in my tracks and tilt around.
