ZOE'S POV
"Are you okay?" Carl questions with concern filling his voice. "I am now, thanks to you." I sigh with relief. He glances at me then back at the road. "I should be worried about you; you're bleeding through your wound. Mike is a monster." I say the last words with anger. "I'll be okay, don't be." He simply replies. "I didn't know you have it in you to beat somebody so badly. I must say you did give him what he deserves." I smirk at Carl, he chuckles before replying. "You never know until you find out." He teases.
"I agree. What if he's not able to get home we left him there, laying like a dead person." I say with worry. "You must be kidding me; you're worried about a person who almost killed you. He's old enough to nurse himself." Carl states with rage, focusing on the road as he drives. I decide not to say a word anymore because he keeps on getting upset when I talk about Mike. I'm experiencing a different side of Carl too. Yes he's caring and kind but I never knew he can get this upset or hurt someone so badly.
At least he doesn't beat up women. My subconscious reminds me.
The rest of the journey is silent until we pull off at his home. "Let me help you." I offer to assist with his balance. "Don't worry about me. Look after yourself." He says with a grin on his face. We head towards the front door only to bump into Mr Anderson who's coming out holding a phone and car keys in his hand. He slowly moves up his head, his eyes landing on his son who's hurt with his t-shirt wrapped around his muscle arm.
"What happened to you!" He exclaims with concern. "It's nothing." Carl responds nonchalantly. "Zoe?" Mr Anderson's eyes land on mine, obviously searching for answers. "It's my fault." I say, narrowing my eyes. "How?" He simply asks in confusion. "It's not, Mike asked for it." Carl answers, looking directly into my eyes. "He chooses to be a coward who hit women so I showed him how to man up." Carl tilts his head to Mr Anderson as he talks with anger.
"What! Did he hurt you?" Mr Anderson questions; shifting his eyes to me. I try hiding my face by facing the ground. "This is bad you even have bruises." He says, staring into my neck. "I'll be okay I don't know what would have happened if Carl didn't show up on time." I sigh with a few tears escaping my face. "But why would he... oh I see now." Mr Anderson says, clearly getting a picture of what's happening. "You two be okay, I'll be back soon. I'm fetching Jake from the day care." "Okay dad." Carl responds and I nod.
We enter inside the house. Carl unwrap his t-shirt from his arm, which is covered in blood. I cover my mouth as I see how badly he's hurt, his wound is extremely terrifying. "Where can I get a first aid kit?" I ask; my voice is cracking. "In the bathroom, go up the stairs through the hallway then turn left, second door is the bathroom." He gives directions and I head up the stairs.
Getting inside the bathroom I search for the first aid kit in a hurry and grab it, jogging back to the living room carrying it. "I got it." I shout, getting seated next to Carl. I take out a spirit and pour a bit on a cotton wool. I then begin to nurse his arm, Carl groans deeply in pain. "Shit hurts." He says; I wink at him. "You'll be fine." I say as I wrap a bandage around his arm. "Thank you" he acknowledges, I place back all the stuff inside the box.
"Zoe I have a confession to make." Carl takes a deep breath, facing me. "Okay I'm all ears." "I love you." He says, causing me to gasp in surprise. "What? I mean why?" I stutter with my words. "Zoe I've always loved you since day one, the moment I saw you I knew." He says, facing me;his face a few inches from mine.
"I don't know what to say Carl, I mean Mike-" he cut me off. "Don't tell me about that bastard, you deserve better Zoe and I know deep down inside, you also feel the same way then why hide your feelings." Carl remarks, his eyes searching for answers.
"Carl please don't do this, not now." I say, playing with my fingers. "For now I have to process what just happened and remove Mike permanently from my life." I tell him. "I'll give you time to think about it, whenever you're ready I'll be here waiting for you even if it means waiting for five years." Carl says, holding my hands. I nod to him.
"Thank you, I'll think about it." I say, looking into his sexy brown eyes full of affection and care. One thing Mike and Carl have in common is the eyes. "Mike is not the only person you should cut off, your friend Samantha too. She's not good for you." Carl says as he's dead serious, I laugh at him. "I can't do that she's my best friend since childhood."
"People change and when they do you have to grow up and take the first step of cutting them off from your life." He states in a monotone. I'm in my thoughts confused by his choice of words. "Have Linda instead." He adds. "Now trying to get involved in my friendship that's something else." I say angrily. "Fine suit yourself." He says nonchalantly. My stomach growls, I face the floor in embarrassment. "You're hungry, isn't?" He questions and chuckles a little. "Yes" I nod, smiling. We both make ourselves food and eat.
