Too Much

"But if there's one thing that I have learnt from it, is that over time, 'love' fades, because it's only temporary while those chemical reactions are still there. Once they wear off, there is nothing left to hold you in together anymore."

"...June? Why do you have my employee file?" Blue asked.

"Ethan needed it." June replied far too quickly, making Blue narrow her eyes.

"Ethan already knows everything in that file. There's no reason he'd need it." Blue challenged, knowing very well that Ethan was the main reason she was at Edenbrook. After all, it was this file that made him select her application.

Blue thought back to the reservations she had of June. She also remembered the conversation she had with Ethan when they were on their way back from Evelyn's gallery.

"I know it has just been a little while, but has your impression on the team changed any bit from the first day?" Ethan asked, raising up the question as her mentor, his hands gripping onto the steering as he drove back to her apartment.

"Well, you of course always have and will have my respect as a diagnostician. As for Baz, he is still sweet as the first day we met. I really could not look at Zaid the same way again after meeting his twin." Blue told him making Ethan chuckle a little. "Trust me, that happened to me once too." he replied.

"And June has been a great friend and senior to me too, I really like her." Blue added. "I'm not surprised." Ethan responded. "How come?" she asked, trurning to look at him, admiring how the sharp edge of his jawline was still evident despite being blocked by his beard. "June is very good at making people like her." he answered, a certain tone evident in his voice, but Blue could not pinpoint exactly what it was.

"Do you like her?" Blue asked raising an eyebrow. She could not help but sense the strange pull of insecurity in her chest. Ethan looked away from the road to her, a mildly annoyed look plastered on his face at her implication. "I like that she's exceptional at her job." he replied, noticing the slight sigh of relief that escaped her.

"When did she join?" she continued to ask. "A few years ago. She was the youngest ever on the team, before you of course. But her case was different. She did not exactly "earn" her place in. She won it by ruthlessly stalking Naveen all over the hospital." Ethan replied. "She stalked him?" Blue repeated with wide eyes.

"In a manner of speaking. She was reprimanded more than once for stealing his charts, but she always returned them solved with a detailed treatment plan. Naveen never would admit if he granted her the place because he was impressed by her, or afraid of her." Ethan explained further, chuckling at the end. "Sounds like both. Wow...she's really hardcore." Blue remarked, taking in all the information.

"June likes to find out what makes people tick. So don't take it personally if she gets nosy." Ethan warned, stopping at a red light. "Has she found out what makes you tick?" Blue asked as she made eye contact with him, the blue of his, illuminated in a scarlet bracket of the traffic light.

"The only person who has managed to do that is you, so probably not." Ethan replied, his tone teasing. Blue rolled her eyes, nudging him with her arm. Ethan smiled in satisfcation as he nudged her back, before stepping on the accelerator when the light shone green again.

"Wait...I've seen the way you change your personality to get on a patient's good side. Have you been doing that with me?" Blue asked recalling how she had lied to Gwyneth about being her fan just to get her to spill more information about herself.
