Truth Hurts

"Always get the truth no matter what."

Ethan and Blue stepped out of the elevator of the South-Wing of the hospital, where his mother's room was.

Even as they walked, Blue could see the glances many of the staff were giving Ethan, their usual mix of adoration and fear, now completely replaced with a look of sympathy. Blue sighed softly as she knew that almost the whole hospital was talking about only two things.

One was the lawsuit regarding Esme, as well as the fact that Ethan Ramsey's mother was admitted. For the first week, the both of them were in their own bubble as she treated her mother, not really paying much attention to the fact that the rumour mill was partly surrounded around the man walking next to her.

However, even as he kept his gaze straight, Blue could tell that the fact that almost everyone was astonished by how the world renowned doctor's mother was a drug addict, was gnawing at Ethan persistently. As they entered Louise's room, the two doctors stopped to see the said woman arguing with a small team of nurses.

"I told you, I'm not going anywhere until I see my son!" Louise exclaimed defiantly, already changed out of her patient gown and into a white shirt, and olive green vest that Alan had brought for her from her motel, during one of his visits.

"Ms. Ramsey, we told you already, it's not in our power--" Sarah, one of the nurses, tried to convince Louise as Ethan leaned down to whisper in Blue's ear.

"She hasn't seen us yet. It's not too late to turn back."

"Who are you saying that to? Me or yourself?" Blue raised a brow at him, making him sigh as he replied, "Whichever one of us is smart enough to listen."

Blue placed a gentle hand on his lower back, pushing him forward slightly. "Come on. I'm right here with you. We'll get through this together."

"Ms. Ramsey, I told you, we need to prep this room for the next patient. You've already signed your discharge papers..." Sarah tried again.

"And I told you, that's not my problem!" Louise countered, stubbornly. Ethan pinched the bridge of his nose before stepping forward into the room, not wanting to trouble the nurses anymore.

"Louise."

"Ethan!" his mother exclaimed, her wrinkled features lightening up immediately as she saw her son. "What is the problem here?" Ethan questioned, his voice carrying the booming authority again, a major contrast to how he spoke with Blue earlier in the office.

"Dr. Ramsey, we tried to tell her." Sarah started to explain.

"Not you." Ethan shook his head once before pointing at Louise. "Her. Why are you keeping this room from people who need it?"

Louise hung her head down for a second before replying, "I just needed to see you."

"What you need is to be grateful that you have somewhere to go next. Many people in your position don't." Ethan deadpanned, his voice devoid of any emotion.

"I am grateful, Ethan. It's just that I had--"

"Enough." he cut her off with his hand. "You won't leave unless I take you? Fine. I'll take you."

He turned to Sarah. "Thank you, Dr. Hunter and I will take it from here." he told the nurse before spinning on his heels, and leading the way out of the room, as Louise struggled to get off the bed and match his pace.

Blue took a hold of her arm, helping her up. "Come on, Ms. Ramsey. We'll walk you to the car." Louise gave her a weak, grateful smile before allowing herself to be lead out by the young doctor.
