Chapter 2~ Double Trouble

Double Trouble

"Dr. Hunter's one of our best. Consider yourself lucky."

Blue stared dumbfounded at the young woman in front of her.

"You...you're my intern?" she asked her.

"Guess so. Hi there, Dr. Hunter." Esme, the girl who broke the plastic surgeon's hand at Donahue's the night before, greeted her.

Blue had watched her smash the hand of one of Edenbrook's most powerful surgeons after he had put his hand on her just the night before, and here she was in front of her, as her own personal intern.

As Ines and Zaid assigned out the other interns, Blue weighed on what to say to Esme.

"Dr. Ortega...How's you leg." she asked the intern. Esme eyed Ines and Zaid as she shifted uncomfortably. "It won't be a problem, if that's what your asking." she responded to Blue.

"Her leg? Do you two already know each other?" Zaid asked in surprise. Esme watched Blue's eyes, waiting for her move.

"Esme..and I met last night at Donahue's. She told me about a scrape on her leg." Blue replied, completely ommiting the fact that she had broken Garrett Thorne's hand.

"Wow, guess you two are well on your way to being besties. Just try to save some lives on your road to friendship?" Zaid said with his usual sass as he returned to his task with Ines.

Esme folded her arms, eyeing Blue curiously with amusement and a sort of...admiration.

"I suppose you want me to thank you for covering for me." she said to Blue. "No need for that. We're partners here. We're gonna have to cover for each other a lot. Besides, I already told you last night, he deserved it." Blue replied.

"Hm. Okay then." Esme responded, her lips curling into a tiny smile, happy that she was under an understanding mentor.

"Let's see, who's next? Dr. Greene, your intern will be...Sothy Yoeun." Ines called out. "Please be nice. Please be nice..." Elijah mumbled under his breath in anxiousness, as he wheeled himself forward to meet..."Yo, Dr. Greene! I am so stoked to work with you! We're gonna be like Batman and Oracle!" Sothy greeted him enthusiastically.

"Er, that wasn't a wheelchair joke! I mean, like partners in crimefighting!" Sothy collected himself. At that, a slow smile spreaded across Elijah's face. "I love Oracle." he told the intern. "Oh, god. He has a clone." Jackie groaned playfully, making Blue laugh in amusement at the whole exchange.

"Dr. Trinh...Meet Dr. Mitch Keller." Zaid said to Sienna, as a strapping, strong-jawed intern stepped forward. "Who am I with?" he asked, his voice sounding as a low boom. It had a similar poise to Ethan's, but nowhere near as baritoned nor powerful, Blue thought.

"Hi! I'm Dr. Trinh! Can't wait to get started!" Sienna greeted him with a friendly smile. Absolutely towering over her, Mitch smirked. "You're my boss? Seriously?" he laughed, and Blue did not miss that condescending tone as he said that. "Yup! And I'm seriously thrilled to meet you!" Sienna replied, completely oblivious to the intern not taking her seriously at all.

Blue did not like her friend being taken advantage of for her kindness, nor being underestimated by her soft exterior, when she was actually a badass doctor. She had to keep an eye on Mitch, Blue noted to herself, determined to look out for Sienna, whom she had come to think of her best friend now.

One by one, the doctors and interns were paired off until there was only one oblivious-looking intern left.

He was a little on the plump side, his skin a mocha shade, as he adorned a pair of black glasses.
