Chapter 33: Punishment

Idus and his ghost, Xeno, left planet Earth and headed straight towards the Reef. Surprisingly, they were actually received almost as if the awoken from there were already expecting a guardian and its ghost to arrive sooner or later. What Idus didn't know however, was that mere hours earlier, both Ravi and Leah had already departed towards Venus with the objective of taking down a vex gatelord.

Still, it was this same pair of guardians who the awoken hunter was looking for. And so, after being welcomed by none other than Petra Venj and taken to see queen Mara Sov and her brother Uldren Sov, he immediately began asking all sorts of questions regarding Leah and Ravi's location, and hidden purpose.

However, something was different this time. It was almost as if Mara and Uldren actually knew Idus for a very long time. And as such, they were really surprised to see him yet again at last.

At any rate, the pair of siblings answered all of Idus's questions and doubts, and this last one find out all the stuff that Ravi and Leah did during their time at the Vestian Outpost... like aiding in the capture of a well-known criminal, and having a unique and tense audience with the queen. Nonetheless, what was really shocking for Idus and his ghost was the reason behind it all.

That's right, the hunter was finally aware of what the guardian duo was really up to: they were searching for the Black Garden... they wanted to destroy its heart... and then somehow live to tell the tale...

Idus and his ghost couldn't believe it. They were already suspecting that the duo of first-years were venturing themselves beyond what the Vanguard allowed them to do, but there was no way for them to actually know that the reason for it was such a difficult and almost suicidal mission.

Idus didn't waste a single second and asked again for more information about the Black Garden. And what is more, even though Uldren refused to talk like he did before, the queen agreed to cooperate with the awoken boy... with the condition that the Vanguard now owed the Reef one favor for lending its help.

And so, the hunter and its ghost left immediately. They now knew how to enter the Black Garden, but Idus also understood that this mission was like none other he had ever experienced before. Therefore, he wasn't really in the mood for taking any risks. He headed back to Earth and reported everything he had discovered to the Vanguard. Ikora and Cayde were of course in shock at first, but then the leader of them all ordered the gathering of every elite and non-elite guardian available, except for first-year trainees.

And well... The rest can be easily assumed...

More than 30 guardians headed straight towards Venus, located a Vex gatelord, and then slayed it in record time. They then headed to Mars and in an almost raid-like fashion way, they crossed the vex portal towards the tenebrous Black Garden.

At this point, Ravi and Leah were hopelessly fighting the Vex, only to then be saved just in time by nothing else than the overwhelming gathering of guardians that had just arrived in their aid.

"And that's what happened" Idus told both Ravi and Leah after finishing his story.

"I see..." Leah replied a little depressed. "So, if it wasn't for you, we would've died back there... I guess we owe you one"
