DAMIEN POV (2 hours before)

"Listen up. We need to get in and get out without being seen. There are officers lining that dock. Violet already told me she remotely shut off the security cameras for the next two hours. Dash and Wes, you will come in from the east side and keep a lookout. Leo and Max, you will come in from the west side and keep a lookout. Scar and I will secure the box in the van. Make sure your headsets are working. Any questions? No? Good."

We got into the van, Scar drove while I sat in the passenger seat and the others sat in the back. Scar had been awfully quiet since yesterday. He didn't talk much in general, but this was different. Scar was a natural leader. He was older than me and like an older brother figure. If I ever had to leave the gang in someone else's hands, it would be Rocco and Scar.

"Scar. You ok, man?" I asked.

He kept his eyes on the road. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"You sure? You've been kinda quiet since yesterday." I looked at him, but there was no expression on his face.

"It's fine, Damien." He didn't sound convincing. Then, I realized what must have been bothering him.

"I know having Naya join us is all new." I saw his jaw tense. Yup. I figured it out. "And I know it's going to take some time for you to open up to her." His face didn't change. "Especially after the incident. Just know, I understand what you're going through."

I expected a nod from Scar, considering he didn't seem like he wanted to talk, but he reacted. "You understand?!" Scar turned to me and anger was evident in his face. "The last time we let someone new come in, you know what happened! My brother, Damien! My brother! I just can't believe you forgot about it so fast!"

"Hey! I never said I forgot it! He was also my best friend." I argued back.

"Whatever." Scar rolled his eyes.

I put my hand on his shoulder. "You know, a wise guy once told me 'you can't discover light by staying in the dark. We can't just cut off everyone from our lives."

"Ew. Who the fuck said that?" Scar scrunched his face in disgust.

"YOU, wise guy." I chuckled

"Was I drunk? That's some cringe shit right there." Scar said.

We parked in an alley behind the dock and got out. The four others made their way to their respective sides. Scar and I went to the place where the shipment was to be found.

We almost got caught by one of the guards but hid before being seen. The gun box was just where we were told it would be: next to the blue storage container marked 7.

As we were making our way back to the van, I saw someone that I thought I recognized. "Scar. Put this in the van. All of you wait inside, and if I'm not back in five minutes, come for me. I just need to check out something." Scar didn't question me and just followed my order.

I snuck behind another storage container, watching the figure I recognized. It was one of the members of the Black Wolves. I knew because I had fought him before and broke his leg. Looks like it didn't heal fully because he was limping. What was he doing here? Their gang never came to this dock.

Suddenly, I was hit in the back of the head. I fell to the ground, groaning. I touched my head and brought my hand in front of me to see blood on them. Then, someone kicked my side. I turned my head and saw three figures looming over me.

Black Wolves. We had been followed.

I quickly sprung up, struggling to stand straight because my head was pounding.

"Well, well, well. Would you look here? Damien Amante. Leader of the Scarlet Diapers. How long has it been?" He said with a smug voice, and the other two laughed. I realized it was Simon. He was the right-hand man and brother of the leader of the Black Wolves, Matteo. Simon always found ways to ruin my plans, but I did for him too, so the goal was mutual. The other two were too irrelevant for me to know their names.

I finally could see straight. "Simon." I faked a smile. "Not long enough. What the fuck do you want?" I hissed at him.

"Well. You took out one of our men. I think it's only fair if we do the same for your gang." He chuckled. God. His voice was absolutely disgusting.

"You wish."

"Or maybe there's another way?" A smirk formed on his face. I didn't even want to know what he was thinking.

"What?" I would never agree with anything he said.

"Violet." I raised my eyebrows. "Let me take Violet on a date." The smirk on his face grew wider.

Before he could say anything else, I punched him, probably breaking his jaw in the process. He stumbled backward grabbing his face.

"WRONG MOVE, AMANTE!" Simon threw a punch at me and I moved, but not quick enough as it still hit my throat. I started coughing, making breathing more difficult.

Then the other two guys came at me. One of them tried to punch me in the stomach, but I swerved. The other came up behind me, grabbing me in a chokehold. I used my elbows to hit him in the stomach, causing him to fall back. The guy who had missed, before, came at me and pushed my chest, causing me to fall. However, I managed to kick his ankles causing him to fall down. I thought I was safe to get up, but then Simon came over to me. In his hands, above his head, he was holding a metal pipe.

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out. Simon dropped the pipe behind him and grabbed his arm. Still, on the ground, I tried to get up, but couldn't. I leaned on my elbows and saw Scar and Wes standing there. Scar was holding a gun in his hand.

"GET OUT OF HERE BEFORE IT'S YOUR HEART THIS TIME!" Wes yelled. Simon and the other two guys got up and ran, disappearing behind one of the buildings.

My guys ran to me. "Damien! You ok?" Wes reached for my shoulder.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I said even though I most definitely was not.

"Why did you go back? You should have brought us." Scar grabbed my other arm. Both of them helped me get up.

"I saw one of them and just wanted to know why they were here." I coughed. "I can walk." I tried to shrug them off.

"No, you can't." Scar said. I didn't have the energy to argue.

"Wait, what's that?" I pointed to something shining on the ground.

Wes picked it up. "Looks like a keychain." He squinted while examining it. "It's a name. Chuck."

"Looks like one of them dropped it." I grinned. "Idiots. Everyone knows you don't carry around identifying info on missions."

They brought me to the van and sat me in the passenger seat. Max, Leo, and Dash hit me with questions. I managed to explain to them, but I was still unable to speak well.

"They'll pay. Don't worry. We'll get them back." Dash added.

"Yeah. But that's not our biggest problem right now." Scar said while turning into the alley behind the bar.

I groaned as I had turned my neck too fast. "What do you mean?"

"Violet." He parked and looked at me.

Shit. Violet was going to be pissed. She hated when I got beat up badly, especially when it wasn't the plan. I had told her this would be a simple mission.

Scar and Wes grabbed me and helped me into the cage. Dash scanned his hand on the lock pad and slammed the door open.

We walked in, and I saw Violet and Naya. Worried looks came upon their faces, and they ran towards us.

"He was badly beaten." Scar said.
