"We need to buy toothpaste." I opened the bathroom door.I walked out of the bathroom to see Damien sitting on the edge of the bed. His head was in his hands. I quickly walked up to him.
"Are you ok, Damien?" I gently grabbed his hands and moved them away from his face.
He looked distressed and couldn't make eye contact with me.
"What's wrong, baby?" I cupped his face so he would look at me.
"My mom." He whispered.
"What happened with your mom?"
"I just got a call that she fell yesterday. She broke her leg and she had to get surgery." He explained.
"How is she?" I slowly stroked my thumb across his cheek.
"They said she's fine and it's nothing to worry about, but I don't know." He started playing with the hem of my shirt.
"What if we go visit her?" I proposed.
"What?" Damien looked at me.
"Yeah. Let's go visit her." I smiled.
"Are you sure? You don't have to."
I cut him off. "I want to meet your mom, Damien. And we should make sure she is ok."
A small smile came across his face. "Ok."
Both of us got ready and headed down to the car. Damien opened the car door for me but stopped me from getting in. "We don't have to go. I can just go and come back in-"
"I want to come, Damien." I grabbed his face and gently pressed my lips on his. I pulled away and sat in the car.
He pulled out of the parking garage and got onto the road.
"It's a 1-hour drive," Damien said and I nodded.
After a few minutes of scrolling through Tiktok, I put my phone down. "We should get flowers."
He turned to me and nodded. "Ok."
We talked for a little while and then listened to some music.
Damien pulled up in front of a flower shop. "You stay here. I'll go in."
"Are you sure? I can come." I reached over to unbuckle my belt.
"Yeah, stay here. It looks crowded in there. I'll be back in a few minutes." He opened the car door and went into the shop.
Damien came back almost 10 minutes later. I saw a bouquet in one hand, but his other hand was behind his back. He struggled to open the car door, and I had to reach over and open it from the inside.
"What are you doing?" I laughed.
"Nothing." He grinned.
He handed the front bouquet to me and I saw yellow roses. "These are so pretty."
"My mom's favorite color was always yellow." He explained.
"Aww." I looked over at him. "Are you going to sit down?" He was still standing outside the car.
"Come outside for a second." He gestured.
"But I'm so comfortable." I groaned.
"Come on, Naya," Damien said impatiently.
I unbuckled my seat belt and stepped out of the car to meet him on the other side.
"Close your eyes." He told me and I did so. "Open."
