3. Ice cream

"Lee let's go, cmon Fia" JJ says reaching for them. "No.... just go JJ I think we're good" Lydia mumbles was a tear rolls down her face. Her dad gets up and throws another punch at Lee but JJ kicks him in the ribs and he falls again.

Fia wiggles her way out of Lee's grip and waddles over to JJ "don't let him hurt me" she whispers to JJ. JJ picks her up holding her tightly in his arm. "Please Lyd" he begs "I don't want you getting hurt"

Lydia looks down at her dad "don't fucking go with him" he growls. She looks but up at JJ before standing up as the run out to JJs truck. "JJ there's no where for Fia to sit" she rolls her eyes as JJ clears room for her to sit and buckled her in.

Rocket who had followed them out jumps up with Fia in the back seat and JJ drives off. "You ok Fia?" Lee asks. "I'm ok" she smiles. Sofia had no idea that this wasn't normal. "are you ok Lyd?" the blonde driver asks reaching over and giving her leg a reassuring squeeze.

Lydia ignores him as she looks out the window "where are we going?" She groans clearly mad at JJ.
"Why are you so pissed I saved your ass?" JJ scoffs. "My ass wouldn't need saving if you got up and left like I told you to!" she shouts. JJ groans focusing his eyes on the road of shit drivers.

"Can we go get ice cream?" Sofia giggles as JJ looks over at Lee looking for permission. "You heard her" Lydia says with a smirk. Lee's anger fades away... she knew this boy for shit 2 days and he already knows her biggest secret.

The pull up to the ice cream parlor and get out of the car but leave Rocket with the windows down. "What do you wanna get Fia?" Lee asks the child. "Chocolate!" she smiles.

"Ok um one chocolate, one coffee and-" she says to a worker looking at JJ. "Chocolate" he smiles reaching for his wallet. "It's fine JJ I'll pay"

"Nope!"

JJ hands the woman $10 as she hands over the ice cream. "Here" he smiles handing them their ice cream. JJ never had siblings or anyone with the same story. He already looked at Fia like a little sister and Lee as his knew John B. "Thank you" Lee smiles considering she probably didn't have enough money.

"Say thank you fia" "thank you JJ!" She squeals. "you're welcome kiddo" JJ smiles. It made him feel good doing things for other people, yes he did things for John B and the pogues but typically kept to himself despite being the life of the party.

"Fuck!"

"What?" JJ asks concerned "Finn gets out of school in 10 minutes and I don't have my car and-" she starts frantically saying "relax I'll drive you" JJ offers. "No I can't rely on someone to do this all for me it's my job to get him a-"

"Lee! I'll drive you it's ok really." He says lifting Fia into his truck and buckling her in. "Just get in the damn car"

Lydia reluctantly climbs into the passenger seat "don't ask for help, you can do it yourself, you're your own woman Lee, love isn't something you wanna get into" her mother's words swirl around her head.

After 15 minutes they pull into Finns school and he hops into the back of JJs truck next to Sofia. "who's this? you're booyyyyyfrrriiieennddd?" Finn teases "shut up! This is JJ a... friend of mine" Lyd tells the young boy. JJ shrugs before driving away.

"Bring us home JJ" she tells him "no it's not-" he starts "JJ! Please just bring us home..." Lydia demands in a stern tone. JJ nods before turning on their road. "You guys go inside I'll be in in a minute" Lee tells the kids and they happily skip inside.

"Thank you I shouldn't have been an ass" Lydia tells him. "it's ok, it's actually nice having someone more like me" he smiles putting his hand on her cheek. Lee smiles before licking his finger to break the awkward tension "ew!" he jokes. Lee goes to get out of the car "Lee wait!" he says stopping her.

"Today was nice... be safe please"

She awkwardly smiles "ya it was" she says nodding and closing the door before running inside.
"LYDIA GET YOUR ASS IN HERE"
