17. Life is Rigged

"well lookie who we have here" Lee jokes as her friends walk into the room. "the one and only" John B smirks as he walks up to Jj who is dead asleep. "hey daddy wake up" he jokes while slapping his arm and everyone immediately makes a face of disapproval. "I wanna see the new pogue in town!" Sarah smiles while taking Rae out of Lydias arms.

"I'm awake" JJ groans "as you should be you didn't just push a baby out of your vagina" Kie laughs while standing next to Sarah and inspecting the small baby. Everyone kinda hovers around Sarah while inspecting Raelyn and taking turns holding her.

John B pulls the baby away from Pope and into his arms. JJ is quick to hover over him "I don't need your clumsy ass dropping my child"

"I'm not gonna drop her jesus"

Raelyn begins to cry considering the 2 best friends bickering had woken her up. "hey shhh uncle John B has got ya" JB smiles while rocking her back and fourth but it doesn't help. "Ya I got nothing maybe she just doesn't like me"

"or maybe you're putting pressure on her tumor" Lee says while making a face as JJ pulls her out of his grip. "shhh I got ya you're ok... shhhh" JJ whispers and bounces her "you're alright princess" he continues.

Everyone looks over at Lee who's eyes are glued on JJ and that little girl. "he's doing great" Sarah whispers into Lee's ear as Rae begins to calm down in JJs arms. "ya he is"

The next day

"We're going to prep her for surgery to remove the tumor and once it's out you guys can go home while we send it away to make sure it's not cancer"

"C-cancer? What do you mean cancer? They said it's
benine?" JJ asks while looking up. "It probably is but if it's not she will have to start treatment"

Lee looks down at Rae then up at the doctor "we can't afford chemo...." she sighs.

"Don't worry about it" a doctor smiles.

JJ and Lee say goodbye to Rae before a scrub nurse takes her to get prepped for surgery. JJ sits in bed next to Lydia "what if she has cancer? What are we gonna do? Just let her die!? We can't afford treatment" Lydia asks as tears form in her eyes.

She had already gone through so much just for her to have a life and now this is thrown at them? Life is rigged, like... REALLY rigged. It's a fucked up game where someone has the cheat codes and you don't. There's no "up up down down left right left right BA" in the real word.

"they said they'd cover it" JJ starts "JJ you and me both know that they just say that no one actually means it"

Lydia lays back with a sigh. She's a kid, a literal child. This is not something she should be having to worry about. It's actually not something anyone should ever have to worry about.

Because life is rigged...
