28. Go Crazy

10 years later...

"Im going out!" Rae yells while going to the door. JJ looks up with his peppered hair and still sassy attitude. "umm go change" he grumbles while looking at her bathing suit top. Raelyn rolls her eyes "I look fine"

"your boobs are gonna fall out of that"

"dad!"

Lee sits in the living room laughing "JJ enough she's fine" Lydia says while motioning for Rae to go. JJ was.... overprotective to say the least. Maybe it was because of his past or just because he loved her but who knew?

Raes cancer came back... more severe then before. They had to option to attempt chemo or just let nature take it's course. Despite her parents pleas for her to fight she stopped chemo pretty quickly. Deep down she knew it wouldn't work.

A few months prior

JJ walks past the bathroom door and hears soft cries. He knew it was Rae because Lee was at work "you ok Rae Rae?"

They'd always been super close so she slowly opens the door. He notices large clumps of hair in the sink and pulls her into a hug. "shhhh I've got you" he whispers to the teen.

Her tears soak his shoulder before she pulls away "I just wanna cut it off" Raelyn blurts out as more of it falls out. "you sure? don't you wanna wait till mom gets back?" he asks in which she quickly shakes her head no.

I mean he couldn't really say no? After a quick texts to Lee and taking out the razor all the memory's flood back. "you sure?" he asks one last time earning a nod of approval from her.

To be honest it was harder for JJ that it was for her. He chokes back his tears, Rae would always be his little girl and watching her like this killed him. Tears flood down Raes cheeks.

Not gonna lie JJ thought about shaving his head again for her, maybe it'd cover up his bald spots he'd gotten as he got older. You know what? Fuck it. Who cares it'll grow back... for him at least.

"your turn" he smiles while sitting on the toilet lid. "w-what?" she sniffles "your turn" he repeats and hands her the razor. When she got the idea her face lit up with a smile.

"I'm gonna make a pattern first" she smirks.

"go crazy"

Raelyn messes with his hair shaving shapes and shit into it before doing the full thing. JJs phone buzzes over and over again.

J: Rae wants to buzz her head so that's what we're doing right now
L: can you wait for me?
J: *read*
L: JJ!
L: I swear to god answer the phone
L: wait for me
L: if i come home to a trash bag of hair i'm gonna b pissed
L: Jay cmon
J: *picture of them*
L: you're so dead

"your mother is going to kill us" JJ nervously laughs. "oh well" she shrugs and unplugs the razor. He could tell she was freaking out a little still as she frantically cleans up.

JJ pulls her into a hug "I love you, and no matter what you're always beautiful" he whispers. Rae smiles a little "I love you to dad"

Raelyn never had many friends and she loved Lee but JJ was her best friend. She knew about Rafe and all, it shocked her but she was ok with it. JJ would always be her dad no matter what.

"dad..." she starts and he could tell it was serious so he looked up. "c-can I stop chemo?"

Present

Rae had a boyfriend, his name was Caden. Lee loved Caden considering how often he was around, JJ warmed up to him after awhile but was still a pain in the ass to him.

The young couple walk through the door hand in hand. "hey Caden" Lee smiles "hi Mrs Maybank" he smiles in return. The name Mrs Maybank still felt unreal, she was married to her high school sweetheart and it actually worked out.

They go up to Raes room "leave the door open!" JJ shouts to them. This had just become their life, they'd come to terms with it I guess.

But it was the months to follow they hadn't....
