"Requiem for a Bed"

My bed, which has always been comfortable,

suddenly strikes me as too firm,

as too short

(though my legs have grown no longer).

My pillows, once greatly prized,

are too soft or too firm or too lumpy for me

and my blanket,

under which I have always been warm,

seems suddenly, tragically thin without you.

In the darkness,

alone,

I try not to admit

that there's something

I'm trying

to say.
