"Loving You As Fiction"

Trapped

in the very blankets of our passion

do I

read,

my body tangled

in the heat

of prose,

your heart

pounding loud within my chest.

In this bed, I cry for empires

and kings,

their sons and champions,

their black-haired sorceresses, their squires, and their loves.

Aye, the very fields of their battles

are salted

by my tears

and set to flame

that I might have light by which to read the final page.

My dear,

is it wrong to love you as a fiction

if it means that I can love you all the more?
