    Tears in eyes blown dry,
    mouths open, yelling to each other
    in conversational tones and
    laughing against the clatter of rubber wheels
    on stone while dust,
    gray and fine,
    folds over us in a soft blanket of age,
    leaving streaks of chalky white
    in black braids,
    french braids,
    tight against your head
    where they cannot be blown
    by rushing wind.
