"Lifescaping: Age 20"
When I dream of the most beautiful house,
I see a canola field
stretching vast across a flat horizon.
While doing dishes
we could peer through yellow curtains,
across a covered porch
until soapy bubbles
popped against a blue, blue sky.
As the evening cooled, we two
could rest
and age a little on the cushioned swing
that would hang,
suspended from the bedroom balcony.
And from our back door we could walk,
hand in hand,
down a cobblestone path that brushes,
like a cat,
against the walls of Eden.
Waiting for us there, at last, would be
a clutch of benches,
huddled close around a lamp-post,
painted black and so adorned
and in the late, dark night
we could still bask in wonder.
