"Recipe for Disillusionment"
Take, for instance, a place where you used to live,
a castle on a cloud, when life was good and
you wrote your name in wet cement. Then
move away for three years to a cold valley
so you can watch your life disintegrate
and you blame it on being stuck down in that valley
when really it's just adolescence, that all-too-
common beast. You look back, of course, to that
white castle, all the more beautiful for its
lack of reality and the varnish of your selective
memory, and you think to yourself that
maybe the cement hasn't quite dried yet.
