Out the windows of a bus,
I see stones shattered
by the roots of trees.
We sleep by a graveyard
and I take photos in the darkness,
exposing a million tiny, moonlit shrines.
She sells tortillas by the kilogram
but, at our ignorant request,
counts out fifty,
one by one.
