"Nightprayers"

Tonight, in your mother's house,

I know my coming dreams

like a bird

knows the thickness

of the wind.

Tonight,

I can discern my future's silhouette

through the obscuring shadows

of the willow branches.

Tonight,

I will hold you in my sleep

and whisper words into your heart

that I will not remember

and you will not forget,

for such is the truth of things

and such is their beauty,

forever and ever,

Amen.
