"Love Amidst Buskers"
The street drummers play a song
where you and I walk as angels,
plucked of wings,
past the storefronts
and out into the sea.
The postcard man sketches it in ink,
careful points and hatches,
his heart rubbed raw with use.
"This is where the rainbow came," he explains,
"to steal the unicorn by night."
"I am the devil's poet," promises another,
his feet dancing across the beer-stained sidewalk,
fluid as the words that he recites.
"Do you love her?" asks the wind.
"I do," returns the tree.
You ask me sometimes
if we can live on a beach,
in a box,
and watch the sunset glistening for miles.
I say yes.
I always have.
I always
will.
