Cousins

Part 28

War was having dinner with his parents. It was silent. No one wanted to say anything and trigger a fight but War couldn't resist.

"Are you still mad?" -War asked Kao. Earth took a drink of his juice.

"What do you think?" -Kao asked.

"We didn't do anything wrong" -War said. Kao put his fork down and stood up to leave.

"Pa" -War said softly but Kao still left the dining area.

Earth didn't know what to do. Kao was behaving mean and arrogant.

War stood up to follow him. Earth took a deep breath and followed them.

"Pa. Don't be mean. We haven't done anything wrong. We have talked about everything already" -War said and Kao turned around.

"I don't like it. He is your cousin. It is wrong" -Kao said. He was trying to speak calmly.

"It is not wrong" -War said.

"It is!" -Kao screamed scaring War.

"Enough" -Earth said fiercely.

"What is the matter with you? We can't forbid them. They are dating already." -Earth said.

"Why are you not forbidding it? They had sex in our home. And he keeps getting hurt" -Kao said to Earth. War looked at the ground. His parents know for sure that he is the one taking Yin.

"It is his decision, Kao." -Earth said. Kao was already angry.

"Go to your room War" -Earth said. War obeyed and left.

"Kao" -Earth put his hands around Kao's waist.

"Don't do this. He will hate us if we interfere. Let them be. They will be fine" -Earth tried to convince Kao. Kao sighed and hugged Earth.

"Have you talked to Kao?" -Fluke asked Ohm. Yin was in his room doing some homework.

"No." -Ohm said serious. He was mad at Kao.

"You have to talk to him. This can't change our friendship with them" -Fluke said worried.

"Kao is being an idiot" -Ohm said. He went to hug Fluke. He knew that Fluke was feeling anxious.

Yin was listening to the conversation. Their parents have had a friendship for a long time. He can't ruin Ohm and Kao. He doesn't want them to fight and stop talking to each other. They are a family.

The next day, Yin couldn't concentrate in school. He had to do something about the situation that was happening.

"I'll meet you behind the library" -Yin texted War after school was over.

"Hey" -War said trying to kiss Yin but he moved back. War just smiled and check if there was no one. He thought that is why Yin moved away.

"Our parents have been fighting since that night" -Yin said. War made a sad face.

"I know but it will be fine. My dad talked to my pa yesterday" -War said.

"I don't think Uncle Kao will agree. He said that we should stay friends like him and my dad and my apa and Uncle Earth." -Yin said. War tried to get near him but Yin moved back again.

"What are you doing?" -War said. Yin felt different.

"I just think that I-I pushed you into this and disappointed our parents" -Yin said but War shook his head.

"You didn't. I wanted this too. I don't want to hide. Just give them time" -War said. He was getting scared by Yin's attitude. Like he was giving up.

"I don't think we did the right thing. We should just--" -Yin was saying.

"Don't" -War said almost crying. Yin was so confident and certain of telling his parents and about their love.

"War." -Yin touched his shoulders.

"You said you loved me" -War said.

"I do but we can't ruin our parents' friendship" -Yin said honestly.

"My dad Ohm gave me everything. He allowed me to be with my apa. They gave me a home. I can't ruin their family" -Yin said with a weak voice.

War moved Yin's hands from his shoulders and left Yin standing there. He couldn't believe that this was happening. All they have been through was a waste of time. Yin gave up easily after telling him that they would be together and confront their parents together. He was the one who insisted and now he gave up.

He got home and went running to his room. Kao and Earth hadn't gone to work. They decided to take a day off and heard War slam the door. War got in bed and put the blanket over his body and started crying.

"Stupid" -War whispered to himself. He was alone again without Yin. Yin chose something else over him again.

"War" -Earth knocked on the door but War didn't open it.

He was full of pain and heartache.

Yin got home too and went to his room. Fluke was the only one there. His restaurant was close for the day.

"Yin. You didn't have practice?" -Fluke asked walking in his room. Yin sat on the floor leaned on the wall and started crying.

"What is it baby?" -Fluke asked.

"I said I wouldn't make him cry again and I did" -Yin said hugging Fluke.

"What did you do?" -Fluke asked worried.

"I don't want dad and Uncle Kao to fight anymore" -Yin said. Fluke hugged him tighter.

"They will be fine, Yin. They have been friends for a long time, they will get through this" -Fluke said trying to make Yin feel better.

"Apa. I had to do it. We won't be able to be together. I was sure to tell you guys but I didn't imagine that it would cause this big fight" -Yin said.

"Did you break his heart?" -Fluke asked and Yin nodded. Fluke sighed. His sunshine was so delicate. He can't imagine how painful it is for him.

Yin cried even more. War would never be able to forgive him again. But he had to do it even when he said he wouldn't hurt him anymore.
