Chapter 13

I went forward and hugged her. After pulling away, I asked her if she was fine. 

Claire: Ha, mai thik hu. Siddharth, Ella ke paas ab sirf 3 din aur hai, wo tumse milna chahti hai. { Yes, I am fine. Siddharth, Ella has just 3 more days, she wants to meet you.}

Sid: Hmm. Use bolna mai kal aunga. { Hmm. Tell her I'll come tomorrow.}

She nodded. 

Avu: Tum baitho, mai pani lati hu. { You sit, I'll get you water.}

I was about to go when Sid held my hand, standing up as well. 

Sid: Mai lata hu, tu apni dost ke saath baith. { I'll get it, you sit with your friend.}

I nodded, but saw Claire staring at our hands only. 

Avu: Claire, kya hua? { Claire, what happened?}

Claire: Kuch nahi. { Nothing.}

Sid went from there, and she looked relieved. 

Claire: Mera luck acha hai tu idhar rehti hai, warna is akdu se baat karni padti. { My luck was good that you live here only, otherwise I would have to talk to this akdu.}

Avu: Akdu, aur Siddharth? { Akdu, and Siddharth?}

Claire: Ha. Mai use kabhi hi bhi bolu toh ignore karke chala jayega. Aur agar usse directly baat karu, toh itna rudely jawab deta hai. Par meri behen se baat karta hai toh itna sweetly bolta hai, jaise usse acha koyi nahi. Mai agar kabhi meri behen ke saamne use akdu bol du na toh woh sar kha jayegi mera ki uska bhai kitna sweet hai. { Yes. If I ever say him hi also he ignores and goes away. And if I talk to him directly he replies rudely. But when talking to my sister he speaks so sweetly, like there is no one greater than him. If I ever call him akdu in front of my sister she starts eating my head saying how sweet her brother is.}

Avu: Lekin wo hum sabse bhi ache se baat karta hai, toh usko koyi akdu bole toh ajeeb toh lagega hi na. { But he talks so nicely with all of us, it will feel weird if someone calls him akdu.}

Claire: Sirf mai nahi hu jo use akdu samajhti hu. Tu uski best friend ya bhai se puchna, toh pata chalega. { I'm not the only one who thinks he is akdu. Ask his best friend or brother, you'll know.}

Just then Sid came there, and gave water to her before turning to me.   

Sid: Mai terrace par ja raha hu, kuch kaam ho toh bol dena, Avu. { I am going to the terrace, if there is some work tell me, Avu.}

He went from there and I chuckled at Claire's face, she knew he was clearly showing he is ignoring her and doesn't want to talk to her. But if not for me being here he would have for sure talked to her properly seeing her suffering. 

Avu: Tu sahi keh rahi thi, tere sath akdu jaisa hi behave karta hai yeh. { You were right, he behaves like an akdu with you.}

Claire: Use chod, tu bata kaisi hai? Aur wo chaaro nahi dikhe, woh kaise hai? { Leave him, you say how are you? And I didn't see those four, how are they?}

Avu: Mai bhi achi hu aur wo sab bhi. { I am also good and they all are also good.}

Vaish: Avu. 

I turned around to see her coming down the stairs. 

Avu: Ha. 

Vaish: Claire, tu yaha? Ella kaisi hai abhi? { Claire, you here? How is Ella now?}
