Chapter 34

They both left, Sid was driving the car. He stopped after sometime on side of the road. 

Sid: Avu, kal clients ke saath meeting hai, office hours ke baad. Bahut zaruri meeting hai, par kal dadi ka funeral bhi hai. Kya kare ab? { Avu, there is a meeting with clients tomorrow, after the office hours. It is a very necessary meeting, but dadi's funeral is also there. What shall we do?}

Avu: Aisa nahi ho sakta ki hum meeting attend na kare? Kya hua udhar, hume Ari ya papa bhi bata sakte hai. { Is it possible for us to not attend the meeting? Ari or papa can say us what happened there.}

Sid: Mai bhi nahi janta. { Even I don't know.}

Avu: Toh ab hum yaha kya kar rahe hai? { So what are we doing here now?}

Sid: Tere paas uncle ka number hai? { Do you have uncle's number?}

Avu: Nahi, dusra hai par wo unke PA ke paas rehta hai, khali jab wo office mein hota hai tab papa ke paas wo phone hota hai. Par wo aaj chutti par hai. { No, I have another one but that one is with his PA always, only when he is in office that phone is with dad. But he is on leave today.}

Sid: Toh hum office jaakar mil sakte hai unse? Kal baat nahi ho payegi. { So can we go to the office and meet him? It won't be possible to talk tomorrow.}

I nodded, and we left for his office. We reached the reception. 

Avu: Is Mr. Nandra free right now? 

I asked, while showing my card. 

R: He is in a meeting right now but will be free in fifteen minutes. 

We both went near his cabin, and waited. After ten minutes papa came, and looked at us like he had expected us here. We all went in his cabin and sat. 

AD: Kya hua hai? { What has happened?}

Avu: Kal funeral attend karna hai hume, par clients ke saath meeting us time par hi hai. { We have to attend the funeral tomorrow, but the meeting with the clients is at the same time.}

AD: Toh tum dono funeral attend karlo. { You both attend the funeral then.}

Sid: Par aap ne toh bola tha sab employees ko join karna hai. { But you had said that all the employees have to join.}

AD: Ha, kyunki tab hum kuch information dene waale hai. Par wo information tumhe Arhaan bata dega baad mein, dost hai na tumhara? { Yes, because we are going to give some information. But Arhaan will tell you about it later, he is your friend right?}

I and Sid looked at each other, and he was suppressing his laugh. I glared at him, there is nothing funny in it. 

Avu: Thik hai. { Ok.}

I said, knowing it's important, and I can't let my personal relations affect it. Dad smiled. 

Avu: Waise aapne hume idhar expect kyu kara tha? { Btw why were you expecting us here?}

AD: Kyunki Sid jab baat kar raha tha, uski awaaj se lag raha tha kuch problem hai. { Because when Sid was talking, from his voice it sounded like there is some problem.}

I nodded. After that, we both left. When we reached home, no one was in the hall. We went to the kitchen to see a mess, but no one was there. After few minutes everyone came there. 

Sid: Kitchen ka kya haal bana rakha hai? { What condition have you all made of this kitchen?}

Reem: Wo hum khana bana rahe the, par phir end mein jhagda ho gaya, aur kitchen pura ganda ho gaya. { We were preparing the dinner, but in the end a fight took place, and the kitchen got dirty.}

Avu: Ab tum log hi saaf karo kitchen, khana mai aur Sid ba... { Now you all only clean the kitchen, I and Sid will ma...}

I stopped when I saw Vaish's hand bleeding. I immediately went to her.

Avu: Aapke hath mein khoon aa raha hai, kam se kam bandage toh laga lete. { Your hand is bleeding, you could have at least put a bandage.}

Vaish: Maine dawayi lagayi thi, thik hai ab. { I had applied medicine, it is fine now.}

Till then Sid had got the bandage, which I put on the cut. Just then I noticed Abhi isn't there, and frowned knowing why he isn't here. 

Avu: Ab sab kitchen saaf karlo, aur Vaishu, aap zyada kuch nahi karonge jisse dard ho. { Now you all clean the kitchen, and Vaishu, you won't do anything much which causes pain.}

She nodded and went to help others. 

Sid: Dada kaha hai? { Where is Dada?}

Avu: Apne kamre mein. Unko jabardasti neeche lana hoga, warna khana nahi khayege. { In his room. We'll have to bring him downstairs forcefully, or he won't have dinner.}

Sid: Tujhe kaise pata? { How do you know?}

Avu: Wo bahut emotional hai, dadi ki death se aage badhne mein unhe kayi din lag jayege. Aur jab wo bahut udaas hote hai, toh kuch nahi khaate hai. { He is very emotional, it will take many days for him to move on from dadi's death. And when he is too sad, he doesn't eat anything.}

He nodded, but the sadness and anger in his eyes confused me. 

Avu: Kya hua? { What happened?}

Sid: Mujhe pata tha ki Dada bahut emotional hai, par mummy papa ke jaane ke baad mai unka saath nahi de paya. Itne saal unse dur raha. { I knew that Dada is very emotional, yet when mom dad went I couldn't be there with him. I was away from him for so many years.}

Avu: Par isme kuch galat nahi kiya tumne, agar unke liye tum apna sapna chod dete, toh unhe bahut bura lagta. Aur kuch saal dur rahe toh kya hua, ab tum dono phirse itne close ho, jaise kabhi alag rahe hi nahi. { But you didn't do anything wrong in this, if you would have left your dream for him, he would have felt very bad. And so what if you were away from him for few years, now you both are again so close, like you both were never separated.}

I said, smiling at him. He smiled back, but I knew my words couldn't help much and I could understand how he felt. Just then all of them came out from the kitchen, and we went inside. The kitchen was completely clean now. We started making the dinner. I was stirring the sabji when I felt Sid standing behind me and saying something.
