Chapter 21

We both went towards the kitchen. 

Avu: Par mera left hand hi toh jala hai, right se toh kaam kar hi sakti hu. { But my left hand has burnt, I can work with right.}

Sid: Nahi. Tune ek aur shabd kaha is baare mein, toh kitchen mein bhi nahi aane dunga. { No. If you said one more word about this, I won't let you enter the kitchen also.} 

I immediately stopped arguing. I went and sat on the counter while Sid and Jaan made the dinner. I kept looking at Sid as he worked. He loves cooking, and makes very tasty food. Even I make good food, but am too lazy to make it unless my help is needed. After sometime Abhi came there, and seeing his red eyes, I knew they all were talking to Arhaan, or about him. I didn't say anything as the other two were there. 

Abhi: Avu, tere haath ko kya hua? { Avu, what happened to your hand?}

Avu: Jal gaya, galti se gas par rakh diya tha, abhi thik hai. { It got burned, I had kept it over the gas by mistake, it is fine now.}

Abhi: Khana ban gaya kya? {Is the dinner ready?}

Sid: Khana ban chuka hai. { Dinner is ready.}

They both asked at the same time, making me chuckle. They looked at me like I am an alien. 

Sidshek: Isme hasne ka kya tha? { What was there to laugh in it?}

Avu: Kuch nahi, bas dono ne saath mein bola isliye. Dono bilkul twins lagte ho. { Nothing, just that you both spoke at the same time so. You both are like twins.}

Abhi: Usme problem kya? Hai toh bhai hi. { What's the problem in that? We are brothers only.}

Avu: Maine kab bola nahi ho bhai? Chota bandar aur bada bandar, bhai hi hote hai. { When did I say you are not brothers? Small monkey and big monkey are brothers only.}

Sid: Tu kaunsi kam hai, tu jangli billi hai. { You are no less, you are a wild cat.}

Avu: Tune mujhe jangli billi bola? Ab tu gaya bandar. { You called me a wild cat? You are gone now monkey.}

I said showing my nails to him. 

Sid: Jangli billi nahi toh kya bulau? Teri aankhe billi jaisi hai, tu apne naakhun bhi billi jaise dikha rahi hai. { What else should I call you if not a wild cat? Your eyes are like a cat's only, you are showing your nails also like at cat only.}

Avu: Tera chehra bandar jaisa hai, aur tu uchal khud bhi bandar ki tarah karta hai. { Your face is like a monkey's, and you jump around like a monkey.}

Sid: Mai bandar nahi hu, jangli billi. { I am not a monkey, wild cat.}

Avu: Mai jangli billi nahi hu, bandar. { I am not a wild cat, monkey.}

Jaan: Dono zoo se nikle praani, chup ho jao. Mai sabko khane ke liye bulake aati hu, aap teeno khana bahar le lo. { You two creatures from zoo, shut up. I am calling everyone for dinner, you three take the food out.}

We three nodded and she went to call everyone. I was about to pick up a plate, when the brothers at the same time said. 

Sidshek: AVU, tu kuch nahi uthayegi, tere hath mein dard hai. { AVU, you won't pick anything, your hand is paining.}

I turned around and looked at them. 

Avu: Mai right hand se hi toh utha rahi hu. { I am picking with right hand only no.}

Sidshek: Mana kiya na. { We said no right.}

I sighed and gave in, knowing they will only win the argument. They started taking the food and plates outside while I just stood and saw them. Just then Jai came. 

Jai:  Avu, tere haath ko kya hua? { Avu, what happened to your hand?}

Avu: Jal gaya, galti se gas par rakh diya diya tha, abhi thik hai. { It got burnt, I had kept it over the gas by mistake.}

Jai: Ok. 

After that Reem came and asked the same question, and I gave her the same answer. Vaish came and asked the same question, I again repeated the answer. Then Fais came and asked the same question. 

Avu: Chuha kha gaya. Sab ek ek karke puch rahe ho ek hi sawal. Ab kya phone mein record karu ki gas se jal gaya taaki play karke sunau sabko? { A mouse ate it. All are asking the same question one by one. Now should I record it in phone and make everyone hear that it got burnt by the gas?}

Fais: Acha sorry. 

Avu: Ab khana khane chale? { Now shall we go to have dinner?}

We all went to have our dinner. After dinner, I and Sid went to my room. 

Sid: Ab tu dawayi khale. { Now you take your medicine.} 

I took it without arguing, not wanting to trouble him. 

Sid: Avu?

Avu: Hmm?

Sid: Us din jab maine tujhse pucha tha ki dada ki gf kaun hai, toh tune mujhe bataya kyu nahi ki tu hai? Aisa kyu bola ki tu nahi janti? { That day when I asked you who is dada's gf, why didn't you tell me it's you? Why did you say you don't know?}

I was waiting for this question only but didn't know what to answer. Of course I couldn't tell him the actual reason without Abhi's permission. I just stared at him, not knowing what to answer while he waited for me to answer patiently. I decided to tell the half truth. 

Avu: Kyunki hum nahi chahte the ki Vaish ko pata chale. Vaish aur tu itne close ho, toh chances the ki tu use batade. Yeh mat puchna Vaish ko kyu nahi bata sakte the, wo abhi nahi bata sakti mai, wo tere dada ke batane ki baat hai. { Because we didn't want Vaish to know. Vaish and you are so close, so there were chances of you telling her. Don't ask me why we didn't want Vaish to know, I can't say that right now, it is something your brother has to tell you himself.}

Sid: Thik hai. Waise tu Arhaan ko toh janti hai na? Vaish bol rahi thi tum sab ka bahut purana dost hai. { Ok. Btw you know Arhaan right? Vaish was saying he is an old friend of you all.}

I looked away from him. 

Avu: Ha janti hu, kyu? { Yes I know him, why?}

Sid: Wo Arhaan bol raha tha ki dada aur tujhse bahut wakt se baat nahi hui hai, tum dono kabhi uska call bhi nahi uthate ho. { Arhaan was saying that he hasn't talked to you and dada since a very long time, you both never answer his call also.} 

Avu: Wo humara dost nahi hai, toh hum usse baat kyu kare? Mujhe toh uska naam bhi sunana nahi pasand, baat karna dur ki baat hai. Uski wajah se aa... Mai poora sach toh nahi bata sakti, par usne jo kiya, maafi ke layak nahi hai. { He is not our friend, then why should we talk to him? I don't like hearing his name also, let alone talking to him. Because of him tod... I can't say the whole truth, but whatever he did is unforgivable.}
