One of Castiel's passions is working in the garden. He can't get enough of getting his hands dirty to help the Earth. He loves planting flowers and other plants all around his house and yard, but his favorite thing to garden is vegetables and fruits. He loves growing and making new foods from fresh ingredients, trying out new recipes, and experimenting in the kitchen.

There is nothing that could spoil his mood when he's out in the garden.

Except for that damn dog.

This is the fifth time he's seen paw prints in his garden, and bites taken out of his unripe fruit. He knows the dog is coming from his next door neighbor because there is a hole in the fence separating the two yards. What he doesn't understand is why his neighbor would let their dog out and ruin his garden. He let it slide the first four times, but this is the straw that broke the camel's back.

Castiel slams down his gloves and gets up, dusting off the dirt from his pants. He storms over to the neighbor he's never met, determined to give whoever lived there a good lesson about keeping what's theirs on their side of the fence.

He knocks angrily on the door, holding onto all that anger. However, when the door opens, all that anger is dissipated. As soon as Castiel lays eyes on you, he can't breathe. You're so beautiful; he's never laid eyes on someone like you before.

In those three seconds it takes for you to say something, he gets a glimpse into your life. Second one: your hair is in a messy bun on top of your head, your eyes have bags underneath them, and your t-shirt is wrinkled. Second two: He notices boxes scattered everywhere throughout the rooms that he can see. You must have just moved here and haven't had a chance to unpack yet. Second three: He spots dog toys and baby toys on the ground, but he doesn't see any indication that a spouse or a significant other lives in this house.

"Can I help you?" you ask politely.

"Um, I don't know if you know this, but there is a hole in the fence separating our backyards, and I think your dog is getting through and into my garden."

You look like you're about to cry at this. You have so much on your plate that you don't need this. Castiel sees the tears, and he immediately regrets saying anything.

"I'm so sorry," you whimper. "I'm trying to transition into this new life and I must have not noticed. I'll replace anything he chewed."

"No, it's okay. I just wanted you to know. It's okay. No harm no foul. Listen, I'm just right next door if you ever need anything. A moving buddy, a fix-it guy, or even a friend. I'm Castiel."

You could cry at how nice he's being. You shake his hand gratefully, glad to have someone on your side for once even though you don't know him.

"I'm Y/N," you smile.

Maybe this could be a new start for you, a better start.
