-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You weren't happy with how your life was going. Everything seemed to be going to shit and no matter how hard you tried to change it, you couldn't. Your car was having some problems and it was just your luck that you didn't know how to fix it. You only knew minor things that you had to teach yourself when it broke because you had no money to have someone else fix it. Your job was in the process of transferring you to another department which you hated. You liked where you were and even though the new department was a little bit more money, you hated what they did and the people in it.

You were fighting with your family because your mom wanted you to have a nice boyfriend and to start settling down so she can have some grandkids but you were nowhere near that point. Your dad was in the process of setting you up with some guys and you didn't want that. Your sister was just getting married and you wanted to help her with the wedding but she's always been a stuck-up snob and didn't want your help. Your brother is the only person you got along with but he's traveling the world with his wife.

Things are broken in your home that you don't have the money to fix and everything is breaking down. You know you're the only one that can control your life but it seems as if life wants to control you. It's not fun. Your neighbors, as nice as they are, aren't anywhere near your age. They are either old and almost never come out or they're married with 4 children that run around all the time. You're 37 years old and you have never felt more out of place in your entire life.

You heard you were getting a new neighbor, your next-door neighbor, but you never met him/her/they.

You just wish life would give you a break and slow down so you can catch up.

After a long day of work, you decided to take the back roads because they were less crowded than the main ones. Plus, you really wanted to get home and take a nice bath to relax yourself. The back roads took a little longer but you could drive faster which made it quicker.

The windows were down since your air conditioning was broken but you didn't mind. It wasn't that hot out but you knew you would need to get it fixed before summer came around. The radio didn't work that well but you didn't mind since you liked driving in silence. It gave you time to appreciate the sounds of nature. Also, it gave you time to think.

You were driving down the road when you heard the first sputter.

"No, no, no." You said and slowed down, hoping whatever it was would wait until you got home. It was Friday which would give you two days to try and fix whatever might be wrong. You didn't hear anything for a few moments but then you did. The car jerked and you cursed when you knew you had to pull over. You sighed and pulled over on the side of the road, turning off the car.

You got out and popped the hood, hoping that whatever the problem was, you could fix it. You shielded your face from the heat but when that passed, you tried to find the problem. You were no good with these kinds of things and when you couldn't see what was wrong, you slammed the hood down in frustrations.

You sighed and sat on your hood, hoping that someone would come by and save you. You were too far from home to walk and you accidentally left your phone at home this morning so you couldn't call someone to come and get you. You were trapped and didn't know what you would do if someone didn't drive by. The back roads weren't used often but they were used sometimes.
