-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's the point of being on this Earth when everyone and everything seems like it's against you? What's the point of going to school when all everyone does is bully you into thinking you're not enough? What's the point of going home when all your family berates you for not helping out the family?
You can't win no matter what you do, so what is the fucking point?
The only person who you find comfort in is Sam Winchester. He's the only person who you feel like you can be yourself with.
It was the first day of school when you first saw him. He was smaller than everyone else and in the corner of the room, so you decided it was worth sitting next to him and becoming friends. Everyone else had their own cliques and groups that they entered high school with, but you had no one. You had just moved to a new state and to a new school, so you didn't know anyone there.
Well, not after you met Sam Winchester.
He was very kind and shy for someone in high school, but you didn't mind because you were also a shy girl. From there on out, you two sat in the corner and pretended that everyone else disappeared. He was your distraction from the outside world, but like with everything, he couldn't protect you from everything.
You two only had four classes together, so for the other two classes, you were the target for the mean girls to pick on to make themselves feel better. You tried to ignore these comments, but the ones that you did hear broke your soul even more than it already is. Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you–yeah, whoever came up with that phrase has never been the victim of bullying.
It's hard to ignore them when your brain tells you to listen to their words.
"How can someone like her? She's so ugly."
"I hear the only reason she's here is because no other school wants her."
"She doesn't even have any friends."
"She should just kill herself."
You'd never do something as extreme and permanent as kill yourself only because you don't think that you'd have the courage to do it yourself. Now, if you just so happened to be jaywalking when a car is coming, then that's a different story. All you want is to get through the last year of high school so that you can move out across the fucking country and go to college away from everyone you know.
All except Sam Winchester.
With a high head, you grab your backpack and walk past the girls who made those comments not even five minutes before. If you show them it bothers you, then they're only going to do it more. It's the end of the school day, so you start the trek back home. You don't take the bus because that means more mean comments from people you don't really know or care to know.
Sam usually has some kind of club after school that prevents him from walking home with you since he lives on the same black as you, so you're stuck listening to your comfort playlist and walking alone. Instead of going home where you know you'll feel even worse about yourself, you head to yours and Sam's place that you found last year.
It's a place in a nearby park that has a bench overlooking the city. It's so beautiful after school because the sun is just below the buildings so it's not blinding you, giving you the perfect view of the city. You take a seat there and lean against the back of the bench, thinking to yourself how much easier it would be if you weren't here.
You don't know how long you sit here, but when you can no longer see the sun behind the buildings, you feel someone sit next to you. Sure, people can know about this spot and sit next to you, but you know exactly who this is.
"You okay?" Sam asks in a gentle tone.
"I don't know if I can keep going on like this, Sam," you sniffle, not realizing you are crying until you taste salt on your lips.
"Don't say things like that."
"But it's true," you say and turn to face your best friend. "Everyone at school hates me. My own family hates me. When will it get better?"
"I know it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, but the sunshine will come. There's always a rainbow after every storm."
"God, I can't wait to graduate so I can get the hell away from here." You pause and think about how much easier your life will be when you go to college. "Will you come with me?"
"I'd follow you anywhere," he says truthfully.
"We'd get to go to college together," you smile.
Instead of answering, Sam wraps an arm around you, pulling you into his body. You rest your head on his shoulder and stare at the city below you. Sam would do anything to keep a smile on your face because he loves you so much. You may not see it now, but he hopes that one day you will because there is nothing he wouldn't do for you.
