First period ended, then second then the third then it was time for Lunch. Chris was already gaining popularity as the mute kid. He was receiving stares as he walked into the lunch room with Barkis at his side.
Barkis watched him. He was an interesting person. He didn’t speak much. So far, she was sure she was the only one in the whole school who’d heard him speak. He was like the prettiest boy she’d ever since and his looks alone would be able to put him high up in the school’s hierarchy. She wasn’t sure what family he was from and she didn’t want to meddle by asking.
They entered the lunch room and immediately got in line to grab their lunch. It was Wednesday and pastry day. Barkis ordered for a large doughnut and a bottle of Pepsi. Chris still wasn’t decided. He bit his nail thinking.
“Yo, dude. You’re holding up the line” a person yelled behind.
Barkis turned to see the individual. Her eyes widened. It was Brent, one of the school’s jock. She felt the urge to protect Chris from him.
“Chris, should I order for you? You’re really holding up the line”
He nodded eagerly.
She ordered a large pizza slice and a cup of milkshake as she led him to her table to meet her other friends.
After they settled,
“Guys, this is Chris, he’s new”
“Oh we know. Everyone is talking about how he’s mute which is really fucking stupid. Like it’s none of their business”, one of them at the table commented.
“Well, you know how your schoolmates are”, Barkis said back. She didn’t want to tell them Chris isn’t really mute. She felt there was a reason Chris didn’t speak much and she would respect it. If he decided to speak to them, they would find out.
Barkis introduced the guy that spoke as Ken. He had brown hair and brown eyes and a really nice smile. The next person to be introduced was Charlie who had his head buried in a book. He had dyed blue hair and was Asian. He gave Chris a small smile before returning to his book. The last person at the table was Vivi, a small petite blonde haired girl who couldn’t keep her eyes off Chris and seemed transfixed.
Chris turned to face her. She immediately looked away blushing hard.
Barkis smiled. Little Vivi’s got a crush.
Chris didn’t say anything but simply took a sip of his drink.
He let out a pleased sound.
The rest proceeded to eat too talking about this and that. Vivi would steal quick glances at Chris. She was so smitten by him and found his mannerism so cute.
“So, like every other school, there are some people in this school you should watch out for cause they can and will destroy your life if you cross them. They are all like super rich. Like I know, we are all rich but they could destroy us with the snap of their fingers”, Barkis started to address Chris. Chris turned to face her biting on his pizza.
Barkis smiled softly.
How can anyone hate on this kid?
“The first person you should look out for, I am literally on my knees begging you to say away from the individual. His name is Oliver”, she whispered his name quite dramatically.
Chris mused.
He was confused about that name. It seemed to be in everyone’s mouth.
Ken rolled his eyes,
“Oliver is not that bad”
Everyone turned their attention to him including Charlie and gave him a look that said ‘really’
“Anyway, as I was saying. Stay away from Oliver. His mother owns this school and he has zero respect for his fellow human”
Ken pouted. Oliver wasn’t as bad as Barkis was portraying him to be. But then he might be biased because he had a tiny weany crush on him. Ok the crush was big, really big.
“He’s also a player who sleeps with everyone. He likes boys and girls and while there’s nothing wrong with that, he just doesn’t show respect to his 'prey' of the day”
Chris understood. He looked around.
“Oh, he isn’t here now. He’s in school but he isn’t here now” she comments when she notices him looking around.
Chris on the other hand was looking for Kathy. He hadn’t seen her since they separated in the morning.
“He’s probably fucking someone”, Charlie muttered not removing his eyes from his book as he took a sip of his drink with his straw.
“I heard he has a boyfriend now”
Ken’s heart broke even more.
“So Chris, try to avoid him as much as you can. I’ve seen your schedule and you share a few classes with him. If he tries to flirt with you and he will because you’re cute, ignore him. Ok don’t ignore him, he’ll get mad just be careful”, Barkis concluded as she took the last gulp of her drink.
“Barkis, do you have a crush on this said Oliver?” Chris asked so randomly, so suddenly that Barkis almost choked on her drink.
The other three at the table looked shocked finally hearing him speak.
Barkis finally recovered coughing a bit.
“I do not have a crush on him”, but the blush on her skin said otherwise.
Chris let out a hum.
“I think every girl and boy has a crush on Oliver, not me though. His looks ain’t even all that”, Vivi joined in the conversation.
“Me when I lie”, Ken countered.
“No seriously, Chris is wayyyyyyy good looking than him. He just has blonde hair and grey eyes”
“The most amazing grey eyes and jaw line that can cut through diamonds and the prettiest, plumiest lips and his nose is so beautiful cause like nose is nose but his is so beautiful”, Ken interrupted.
Vivi rolled her eyes.
“Yeah ok, point still stands”
“Ok, girl, have you seen his body?”Barkis exclaimed almost jumping excitedly.
“Wait, isn’t it like Harem to lust on a dude’s body?” Vivi narrowed her eyes.
Barkis pouted, “I’m not lusting. I’m simply appreciating Allah’s wonderful creation but point stands, he has a great body”
“Yeah, he does”, Ken let out a sign staring into space.
Chris didn’t understand that feeling. He had never liked anyone before.
The bell rang at that moment.
“Come on, we have to get to class”
They all stood up and tossed away their disposables in the trash can before exciting the hall with other students.
