Derek sat in his office looking through the charts that showed the number of students that visited his office since the term began and the number was quite high. The only consolation was that more than half of them were fake or with non existent symptoms. He would have taken down their names and grade before he realised it and he fell for it every time. He guessed the reason it was so was because he was the youngest staff in the whole school. There were even students who were in their 20s or even his age mate on special art programmes. One would even say he was handsome. Since the school was very LGBT friendly, he got hit on by all genders. It was inconveniencing to say the least. How was he going to explain it to Mrs Borghese? He couldn’t start another chart now. Some of the names on the list were legit medical emergencies and it couldn’t remember the names of everyone since many of them were unserious. He frowned. He needed to do better. This might be his first official job but he couldn’t afford to mess up. He massaged his temple. He didn’t want a headache on top of everything.
He heard on a knock his door. He sent a silent prayer that it wasn’t one of those students. He couldn’t handle any of that today. It was almost becoming a daily thing. He would report it but he didn’t want the label that inescapable would happen. The kids of this school could be nice one second and be terribly mean the next.
“Come in”, he said.
The door slowly opened and revealed Chris. The instant tension relief that came upon Derek should have surprised him but this was Chris. Chris was the like the sunshine in his life, a nickname he had called him on Saturday which made him smile so much, Derek wanted to see it (the smile) all the time. Everything about the boy screamed positivity, something Derek needed in his life. But this was lunch period and Chris was here. Was he sick? He was on his feet the next second walking to stand in front of him.
“Are you okay? Are you sick?” he touched his forehead.
Chris simply shook his head and then, he was hugging him. Derek was caught off guard by the act but immediately hugged him back.
"Are you okay? Did anyone bother you?"
Chris shook his head again.
"I've just missed you", he said against his chest.
The butterflies erupted and he felt every bit of 20. He had had to grow up real fast but he felt like the child he was at that moment.
Derek pulled out of the hug first and slowly caressed his cheeks. He loved the way Chris looked at him, with stars in his eyes, like he was the center of Chris' universe. He wouldn't dream of hurting him. He couldn't stomach the thought.
"Can I stay here?" He asked so much anticipation in his voice.
Derek smiled, "Of course. Where's your lunch?"
Chris' mouth made an "o"
"I forgot"
Derek chuckled. He blushed. This was heaven.
"Wait here. I'll get you something from the teacher's lounge"
Chris nodded. He smiled at him again before leaving.
Once Derek left, Chris looked round the office, taking everything in. This was Derek's office, Derek's space. He liked it. He moved behind the desk and took a seat on Derek's chair. He took a pen on the table. Derek's pen. Derek was the best. He wanted to be with Derek all the time.
There was a knock suddey that he wanted to jump. He thought it might be Derek but Derek wouldn't knock. His curiousity was answered a second later. The door opened and revealed Oliver.
Oliver?
Oliver stopped abruptly seeing him on the chair Derek was supposed to be in. He entered more and closed the door. Chris fought the urge to recoil. He didn't want to be in his presence. No, not really.
"Where's the nurse?" He asked so sharply Chris noticed the enmity from him or maybe the enmity was from him. He was still mad at him for his comment about Kathy last night.
He refused to answer. He could have but he refused to.
"Suit yourself", Oliver said before walked even closer and sat on the visitor's chair.
The next minutes were something Chris would describe as choking silence. It was even worse than last night. At least last night, his mother and Kathy were present. He didn't understand why Oliver was here. Was he sick? He didn't look sick.
Right then, Oliver started to whistle. Chris felt part of his brain explode. If there was one thing he hated and would kill for, it was whistling. It was a hot kettle was steaming in his head.
"Can you please stop?"
Oliver abruptly stopped.
"Oh, so you can speak today? And I won't. It's a free country. If it bothers you that much, leave"
"Derek will expect me to here when he returns"
"You can just go and come back"
He wanted to start again.
" Please don't"
He ignored his pleading and continued. Weren't people supposed to accept apologies? Was he doing it wrong? Why was Oliver doing this?
"Stop it, please", he blocked his ears with his palm. It was unbearable now. Oliver did stop. He expected him to start again so he kept his ears blocked. But after a minute or passed and he didn't, he dropped his hand and looked at him. Oliver was looking at him in a way Chris couldn't even comprehend to understand.
"God, are you broken inside"
Derek entered the next second a takeaway* and drink in hand.
"Suns-" he was starting to say when he sighted a student sitting in one the chairs. The student turned.
Oliver.
"Don't stop on my account", he said.
Derek watched him suspiciously before moving in further. He noticed Chris sitting in his chair making him smile but the look on his face had the smile vanishing. He moved a bit hurriedly to his side. What had Oliver said to him during the time he was gone?
"Are you okay?" He whispered to him. Chris nodded.
"Are you sure?"
He hesitated but nodded again. Derek's facial features relaxed.
"I have a headache", Oliver suddenly spoke up again. "I'm going to stay here till school closes. I have a pass from my homeroom teacher. If you don't believe me, you can ask her"
He then stood and moved to one of the beds in the room before laying on it.
Derek frowned. He didn't want him in here but what could he do? By proxy, he owned the school. But technically, Chris did. It was complicated.
"Here", Derek handed Chris the takeaway and the drink.
"I'm not really hungry"
"You should eat something. Are you sure you're okay? Did he say something to you?"
Chris shook his head but Derek didn't miss the wary look he sent in Oliver's direction.
What exactly did he do?(A/N: *: takeout. So this is kind of a filler chapter that's an introduction to the next. Two updates in a day. Where was this motivation when I had time? :((. Derek's character is a last minute thing. I wasn't supposed to develop him at all. Chris was only supposed to have a school boy crush on him and it would have ended there. Now I don't really know how to get rid of him,not exactly, only I have to . Also, Chris is at the age of consent and nothing happened between him and Derek until he turned eighteen. Was there mutual attraction? Sure but they're both consenting adults now. And Oliver is a whole lab case. Enjoy!!!)
