Lia shouldn't have said what she said. She had been thoroughly advised by Lena not to, because Chris wouldn't be able to take it but she had told him anyway. Now she wished she hadn't. She had expected a reaction from Chris but she wasn't getting one. That scared her. She didn't understand this new version of Chris. It really scared her.
"Chris, did you hear me?" She asked still hugging him. She received no reply. She pulled out of the hug and stared at his face. He was looking at her but his face nor eyes betrayed nothing. She couldn't tell. What was happening?
"Chris, you're scaring me" And he was. He really was.
"Baby, say something. Chris"
She squeezed his hands. Nothing. Now she was terrified.
" I'll get the nurse, okay? You're really scaring me"
She hesitated to stand, still trying to get him to talk. It wasn't like she was a stranger to his silent moments but this was different, somehow it was different. She finally stood when she wasn't getting an acknowledgement from him. She hurried out of the room to find someone who would identify whatever was happening with him.
Oliver was pissed, like "fuming in the ears" pissed. He didn't know he could feel anger that it physically hurt.
"You're going to marry Chris one day"
His mother had said. What the fuck? What the actual fuck? He was one leg into the house when his mother told that and left without any further explanation. Oliver had stood frozen thinking maybe he had had wrong but the thought hit him like a trainwreck that his mother wasn't playing around because she never played around. He chased after her demanding explanation. She gave him one, thankfully, that she had agreed that one day he would marry Chris because it would be better for both families. Lia had also agreed and that was when the rage started.
No offense, Oliver knew how his mother was, how she would make impulsive decisions on his behalf without asking him (but this one was by far the most impulsive and idiotic), he expected better from Lia. How could she do that? In what universe did any of this make sense? What was wrong with their parents?
Marrying Chris? What the fuck? Just thinking of it made his stomach twist and turn. Oliver had never been big on marriage but now, one was imposed on him. But hell no. Not if he had say in it. What did his father think about it? But Oliver thought better than to think of his father. He was about to say something close minded and outdated by saying his father was not a man. He was a pushover. But Oliver knew better than to bring attention to the whole issue. The other family were going through a really tough time but he still had to do something, say something. Right now, he was back at the hospital and on his way to Chris' room. He was going to yell in his face, tell him the newest development and demand he talked some sense into his mother. Whether Chris was sick or not, that was what he would do but as he opened the door and saw his birth mother in tears as she sat next to the boy in question, he felt some of his anger dissipate.
What was happening?
In the room, a doctor examined, the seemingly unmoving Chris and Derek, also there, stood close by.
Fucking Derek.
But honestly, what was going on?
At that moment, Chris' gaze met his and tears that weren't there before suddenly appeared in his eyes. They all turned acknowledging his presence. He was almost surprised they just did considering he did open the door with force to scream bloody murder. Lia looked at him, then at Chris and just like Oliver, she was confused as to why Chris was in tears. The tears were falling now and Oliver couldn't quench the thought that said Chris detested him that much that he was in tears. Oliver wanted to frown and hit his stomach to stop the queasiness but he decided not to feel bad because Chris was weird.
Ever since he showed at Oliver's school, things had been very weird.
"I-I'll go", he turned to go but caught Chris shaking his head before he did. He stopped and blinked.
What was this boy's deal? Did he want him here? Did he not?
Oliver slowly walked towards the bed. If Chris showed any sign of resistance or detest, he would leave his sight in haste and would never ever see him again, or he would die trying.
Chris didn't show any resistance or detest and Oliver neared him. Though he was still in tears, he looked almost relieved. What was the boy's deal, truly?
Lia stood up from his side when Oliver was close enough. Even the doctor stepped aside. Oliver couldn't see his face, but he was sure Derek was glaring at him. The thought almost made him smile, almost.
Chris was pulling him forward and hugging his waist before he could blink. What the fuck?
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry", he kept saying.
Oliver was confused and stunned by the sudden action.
He could try but he would never understand the boy holding on to him tightly.(A/N: thank you for reading!!! I'm actually very excited to write the next chapter. Have a great day/night!!!)
