Oliver fought the urge to go back in the room and exact revenge on the boy who puked on him. He took all the willpower at that moment not to throw up too. It happened so suddenly that Oliver had let out a rather "unmanly" scream. Right now, he stood in front of mirror of the miniature sized hospital restroom wincing.
"I should just go in there and strangle him", he muttered finally getting a way to get rid of his sweater without causing further damage.
As annoyed and gross as Oliver felt, he supposed it was also his his fault he got vomit on himself. The doctor did warn that one of the side effects of the medication he was on was throwing up. He didn't even know what pushed him to sit next to him and console. After the nasty act that happened, Chris's sobs all but got louder and if Oliver close enough attention, he could still here little sniffs coming from him from behind the door, though he was supposed to be asleep.
Something clenched in his gut. The past few days had been a rollercoaster ride. Hell, that was an understatement. He cleaned himself up and put on the T shirt the nurse gave to him. He exited the bathroom, almost surprised to see three new faces there. He realized the sobs were coming from one of them and not Chris, who was sleeping soundly. He frowned. Why were they here? Couldn't they let him rest?
The door opening must have alerted them because they all turned to him. The boy among them made a sound and if the day was normal, Oliver might enquire what that sound was about and see where it led them but the day was not normal and Oliver had not been normal in a while.
Now that he could see their faces, he recognized them. They followed Chris everywhere or Chris followed them everyone. He recognized the girl in the head scarf as the vice president of the Student Council. Oliver wasn't a council member, God forbid it but he visited their office once per month for a supervision because his mother said so. It was embarrassing.
"You should go. He's asleep. He's had a long day"
"It's ten in the morning and you're here", the other girl in the room said. He stared at her. He supposed she was pretty but the glare she was sending his way showed that she didn't like him one bit and it was refreshing to say the least. Oliver knew a lot of people didn't like him and rightfully so. He wasn't a very good person but they tended to pretend around him. He was the prince of the country, was he not?
"I was just about to leave. You should let him rest. He probably won't recognize anyone of you. Go back to school"
"Why? What happened to him?" Bailey asked. It was Barkis but Oliver was an asshole.
"He's delirious" The change was too much for his poor little brain to handle, but of course Oliver didn't say that out loud. That would have been insensitive.
"Go back to school"
"School was cancelled", the other girl replied. She wasn't glaring anymore but she looked at him warily. He wondered what Chris had told them about him.
But school was cancelled?
Derek will be here soon.
He wanted to hit something.
"You're right, we should probably go", the boy finally said something. Oliver caught his gaze and the sudden blush on his cheeks could rival that of Paul.
Paul.
He missed Paul.
As they walked towards the door, he heard the boy whisper,
"Told you he wasn't that bad"
He was, he truly was.
Once they were out the door, he turned and faced Chris who didn't wake up during the encounter, but then that was expected considering whatever hard pill the nurse gave him. Oliver meant it when he said Chris's looks were almost too much. Staring at him made his stomach tumble. He didn't like that. He couldn't place a name on it. Oliver had been with a lot of people to know what he was feeling wasn't attraction, not that he wasn't attracted to Chris but he wasn't. He couldn't explain it. Sure, he had thought of how it would feel like to kiss Chris but the thought of it actually happening almost made him sick. He looked away. He couldn't do it. He didn't have answers to whatever he was feeling and that troubled him. He left the room before he thought further of it.
Oliver walked a few metres before he arrived at the door of another room but he didn't enter. Unlike Chris' ward, the door was made with a see through glass and inside the two women cuddles on the almost small bed.
Lesbians. Bless their souls. Oliver didn't know much about his birth mother but he knew she hadn't had much happiness in her life. He hoped Lena was able to give her that. She deserved it.
"They're perfect, aren't they?" He felt the voice and presence beside him suddenly.
That voice.
Fuck.
Oliver didn't want to turn or acknowledge the person's existence but the person stood inches away. What could he do? Slowly, he turned and faced Drew.
He wanted to ask what he was doing there but remembered him and Lena was related and Lia was his...
Fuck.
"Hey, I'm kind of starving. You want to grab a bite?"
No. Except he didn't say it out loud.
Drew started to walk away and Oliver was sure he was possessed because a few seconds later, he followed after him.
They found a breakfast restaurant, a few minutes away from the hospital and considering Oliver followed at a distance, they didn't walk together so there was no awkwardness though it was still weird as hell.
Oliver ordered a sandwich cake and iced tea. Drew ordered a toasted bread and an americano. As much as Oliver wanted to bolt and return to the hospital for the annoying reason that Chris might wake up and be confused but Derek probably would have arrived by now and the main purpose being he didn't want to be in Drew's presence, Oliver was really hungry so he sat still as they are in silence. The food wasn't filling but it was something.
After the meal, the awkwardness started. It almost put the dinner from hell to shame. Minutes later, Drew broke it,
"I should have never left your mother"
Oliver fought the urge to groan. Drew was about to get all sentimental and narrate his life's story. Oliver couldn't stand it.
"Are you jealous of your cousin?" He asked. He wasn't interested in any narration.
Drew caught his gaze. As much as he wanted to, Oliver didn't look away. He didn't back out. Never. The way Drew said mother almost made him look down and fight the nerves in his belly, almost.
"Not in the way you're thinking. I think her life would have been easier if I had stayed"
No shit.
But he didn't stay, he left and there was no taking that back. Why were they still discussing it?
" How did you find out anyway?" Ah, the big question. " We don't even look alike"
It was true. Oliver was all Lia's genes. He looked nothing like the man in his presence. Maybe except the nose and height but then Lia wasn't exactly short. Oliver was thankful.
He simply shrugged to his reply.
" Did Lia tell you?"
Oliver smiled. It was without humor. He really wanted to insult this man.
" I don't think Lia knows that I know that you're my sperm donor"
Drew's expression barely changed. He was truly his father's son.
"Fair enough. How does that make you feel?"
What was this? A therapy session?
" It really doesn't fucking matter now, does it?"
In a few months, he was out of that environment.
Oliver was frankly done with the conversation. Something in him also told him to go back to the hospital. Or maybe that was just his subconsciousness looking for an excuse.
"I really have to get back"
He stood up without getting a reply from him, not that he needed one. He needed to get back to Chris.
Fucking hell.
