James was lost in thoughts as he walked through the park. Adam told him he had to work, so James was walking the dogs alone today. He hoped Adam would be back when he came home. The demon hadn't went out for work in a really long time. Not since before his punishment. Though, since about a week or two, he'd been acting a little weird, almost nervous. He seemed... scared. Maybe James had said something wrong. They had the entire discussion about the blonde becoming a demon right before the dark haired boy started acting like that. It made James worry. When Adam had first told him, he'd stop loving the blonde as he lost his soul, it had hit hard for James, but by now he was okay with it. While in the shower, he realized that that would mean Adam wasn't going to be hurting forever once the blonde passed away. Yet James couldn't help feel bad. Living an immortal life without love or care, it sounds awful.
'Look who we've got here.' A familiar voice said.
'What do you want, Mona?' James asked as he looked at the female demon with annoyance.
'I'm just saying hi, why are you so pissed?' Mona asked.
'Because you lied to me! You made me believe Adam didn't love me!'
'Oh, that... yeah, well, in my defense, I didn't technically lie. What he did to me and to Illy was true. He admitted it himself. How was I supposed to know that after having pulled those tricks dozens of times, this time was different. I just wanted to protect you.'
'Sure... what are you even doing here, Mona? Adam said he had to work, why aren't you with him?'
'We have different assignments right now. He's recruiting, I'm hunting.'
'Recruiting? Who is Adam trying to recruit?'
'I'm afraid I can't tell you that one, sugercube. If you knew, it'd cause Adam trouble.'
'So it's someone I know?'
'You could say it like that.'
'Oh, for the love of... just tell me!'
'James, he's supposed to recruit you.'
James stared at her for a moment.
'You're lying.'
'No, I'm not. Listen here, I couldn't care less about whether or not you believe me. Maybe you should ask him yourself. Believe me if you want, don't believe me if you don't. I don't care. Anyways, I have to go. Your dogs are adorable by the way. See ya.'
Mona walked away, leaving the blonde dumbfounded. There was no way Adam was trying to recruit him, right? Though he did get James to literally ask to be a demon. No, Adam had said he wouldn't allow that. But who knows what type of tricks demons pull.'Welcome back.' Adam said as James entered their dorm again. He quickly petted the dogs and wrapped his arms around James's waist giving him a kiss, his tail wagging.
'Hey...' James replied a little distant.
'What's wrong, marshmallow?' Adam asked.
'Nothing, I was just wondering something. What is you current assignment for Satan?'
'Why are you asking?'
'Curiosity.'
'You shouldn't dig yourself too much into demon business. It's not safe.'
'Stop making excuses, Adam! Mona told me you're trying to recruit me!'
Adam took a step back and let go of the blonde.
'So it's true?' James asked when he saw the demon's reaction.
'I'm not trying to recruit you, James. It's my assignment, yes, but I rather fail it than have you become a demon.' Adam replied.
'You're gonna take that torture again?'
'I already told you, James. You're more important to me than my own happiness or suffering.'
'Still, why didn't you tell me?'
'I was trying to protect you.'
'By keeping secrets?'
'We already had this discussion, James. Everything I ever hide for you, it's all for your own good!'
'But do you have any idea what that's like for me, Adam? I'm not a fucking seven year old anymore! You can tell me it's to protect me all you want, but I'm tired of it! It's not up to you to decide what I should and shouldn't know! You say it's to protect me, but shouldn't I be the judge of that! No more secrets! Either you tell me everything right now, or it's over!'
Adam looked at the blonde with tears in his eyes. He didn't wanna tell James, but he had no choice.
He was about to explain everything, when he noticed something behind the blonde. A bright, red light shining from behind their dorm door.
"A portal from Hell. They're here to get me." Adam thought.
'Shit!' He said before he turned around and ran to his room. He opened the window and flew away. If those demons brought him to Lucifer, he'd be done. James stared at the open window.
'I knew it...' he whispered as his tears hit the floor.Adam was laying on the ground in the forest. He didn't know what to do. He had to find James and make it up to him, tell him everything, but he couldn't. How was he supposed to do that? Any moment, demons or even Satan himself could show up and destroy him. It scared him. He knew it would be long and painful. Was it worth it for James? Absolutely! Was it a horrible, terrifying thing to have in your near future? Absolutely! Adam tried to shake off his fear and focus on how he could fix this. He didn't wanna leave James in a fight. He told Mona to let James know if he died. At least that way the blonde would now that Adam didn't abandon him. But he couldn't ask Mona to give the blonde answers to all his questions. Mona didn't have those answers either.
'You're trying to avoid me again.' A voice nearby said.
Adam immediately crawled back to his feet and turned around. In front if him stood the devil himself. Adam's breathing quickened and his heartbeat elevated. He stared at his master, fear being all he knew.
'I don't have use for a disobeying demon, Adam. It's too bad. You had so much potential. You went from one of my best to the absolute worst. You were supposed to grow to the top. You were supposed to be the pride of the demon race. But I guess someone else will have to fill that position. I don't have use for a disobeying demon. I warned you multiple times, but now it's time to end it. Slow and painful.' Lucifer said as he reached his hand into his pocket to grab something. Adam didn't wait to see what it was. He turned around and ran. Unfortunately, Lucifer's supernatural speed matched his own. Adam started panicking as he saw the devil approach. He had to get out of there. He focused his powers and opened a portal to Hell. He jumped through it and closed it before Satan could follow. The demon landed on a pile of bones. He saw a stream of lava a little to his left and realised he was on one of the volcanoes. The screams and cries of tortured souls could be heard in the distance. Suddenly the area was lit up by a red light as Lucifer appeared from his own portal. Adam screamed and quickly made a new portal to get away again.
This time he landed in some dessert in Arizona. He hoped Lucifer wouldn't come look for him all the way out here. He took a moment to catch his breath, though he was still panicking. Especially when a red light lit up the sky. Adam didn't even look as he jumped through a new portal. This time he landed next to a group of kangaroos. They seemed to be startled by the boy's sudden appearance because they ran off immediately. Would Lucifer come look for him al the way in Australia? Adam knew he could expect the devil any second, but he tried to use the time to come up with a better plan. As soon as the red light of Lucifer's portal appeared, Adam jumped through is own again, landing in an alleyway. He immediately ran and entered the big and busy crowd on the main street. He was in the middle of Paris. He could see the Eiffel Tower, but he didn't have the time to go check it out. He hoped he could hide in the busy crowd. As a demon he was taught to understand and speak any language. He would probably have an accent, but he could totally live in France if he had to. He kept his eyes on the nearby alleyways as he tried to come up with a plan b in case this wouldn't work. Suddenly he was grabbed from behind and dragged into an alleyway. He was pushed against the wall as Lucifer pulled out a knife. Without thinking, Adam kicked the devil away from him and jumped through another portal, landing in a snowy field somewhere in Canada. He fell to his knees in the snow as he panted. He couldn't keep this up much longer. There was only one thing he could do. If he didn't wanna end up in Lucifer's claws, he was left to the mercy of God. When he saw the red light reflect in the snow, he took a deep breath and jumped through his last portal.Jaiden was patting James on the back as the blonde cried against her shoulder. She wanted to comfort him, but she didn't know how to. The two were suddenly startled when a red light and a portal appeared right next them. Adam came out and fell on the floor.
'What the Hell?' James called out.
Adam looked up and crawled over to Jaiden in a panick.
'Jaiden! You need to take me to heaven right now!' He yelled.
'What?! No way! You're a fucking demon! I'm not taking you to heaven!' Jaiden called.
'Please, Jaiden! You don't understand! I need to go to heaven right now or he'll find me and then I'm done for it!' Adam begged.
'Who'll find you?' James asked confused.
A new red light appeared as the devil himself walked into the room. Jaiden and Adam stared at him in terror, but James didn't recognize the man.
'Damn it, Adam! You led him right to us!' Jaiden called. She grabbed the demon's hand with her left hand and James's arm with her right. She focused her powers and a bright blue light illuminated the room as a portal appeared. She quickly jumped through it as she dragged the two boys with her, away from the devil.
