Chapter 1: To Agree or Not To Agree

Hey guys, here's the very first chapter. Enjoy!

Like every other morning, this one was no different. I woke up in the same old bed with the same old pillow nestled below my head with my same old trusty bolster, that I've had since forever, tightly clutched to my chest. Except, one thing was different. I did not have school which made the morning that much more bearable.

Yeah, I'm not exactly a morning person.

I felt around the night stand for my phone and grabbed the metal device in my hands. The bright screen blinded me momentarily, forcing me to squint my eyes painfully to check the time.

Urgh, it was only 8.30am. You know when you know you can't go back to sleep but yet you still give it a try although you know that you're so not going to fall asleep. Yeah? Well, that's how the next 20 minutes was for me.

When I finally gave up, I made my way down to the kitchen to feed my baby – also known as my tummy. With my eyes still hazy from sleep, I felt around the fridge for some milk before proceeding to find my favourite cereal. Have you tried Nestle Gold Flakes before? If you answered no, you absolutely have to if you want to experience what heaven is like without having to die first.

I was in the middle of playing the colours of the taste in my head, like what Remy does in Ratatouille, when my mom came down the stairs with her phone to her ear and a small smile on her lips. She ruffled my hair playfully and placed a kiss on my forehead. I gave her a mock annoyed look for messing up my hair (not like my bedhead was neat in the first place) but soon broke out into a grin and continued eating my amazing breakfast.

"So, you're buying the tickets today?" My mom spoke up to whoever was on the other side of the phone. What tickets? My curiousity got the better of me so I tuned in to her conversation.

"Yeah, but I don't know if she wants to go." My mom gave me a quick side glance as she said that. There was a pause as the other person replied.

"Oh, haha! He really said that? Well I'll ask her then, yeah? I'll call you back later." My mom hung up and turned to look at me.

Before she could say anything, I decided to speak up.

"So I'm going to assume that the 'her' in that call is referring to me,"my mom nodded her head and I continued when she remained silent,"so who was on the phone then?"

"Well honey, that was your Aunt Lila and she was planning a trip to London. As usual Veronica and Ron will be going and she's also inviting Shane and his mom. And she was wondering if we wanted to go. I know that your brother and father wouldn't want to go but she was thinking if you wanted to come along." She explained.

I flipped the idea in my head a little, not liking the sound of travelling with so many people.

"Come on Kay, it'll be fun and I know it's a place you've wanted to go." She added with a pleading look in her eye when she saw my hesitation.

It's true, I've always wanted to go to London. Coming from New Orleans, I've always wanted to go to the UK for many reasons like the accent, the people (I'm sure you know what I mean), but also for the picturesque places and sights that supposedly takes one breath away.

So why am I, Mikayla Jones, not jumping up and down doing my happy dance, and grabbing this opportunity. Well, I have not one, not two, but three excellent reasons.
