Chapter 30: Like Totally
New chapter! Enjoy x.
Kayla's POV
I let out a wide yawn just as the doors of the lift opened to reveal the ground floor.
"Someone's tired."
I looked up to find the idiot grinning boyishly at me. And yes, he looked great. As usual. Even at eight in the morning. I could feel my eyes tearing slightly from the yawn but I tried blinking them away as I walked out of the lift.
"Why aren't you having breakfast yet?"
"I was waiting to have breakfast with you."
His answer caught me off guard. What did he mean by that? Did he wait for me just so that he could spend breakfast with me?
That's what he said, smartass.
Why would he do that? Unless he loves spending time with me but that sounds a little bit like jumping to conclusions. And why is my brain being overly sassy to me today?
I glanced at him, trying to keep any reaction off of my face. I may or may not have faltered in my step when I found him already looking at me with a small smile playing on his lips. But it wasn't just the smile that got to me, it was the way he was looking at me. I saw a hint of adoration in them, one that increased the flame on my slowly melting heart. Okay, control Kayla, I reminded myself.
Oh god, this was embarrassing.
To distract myself and avoid whatever this was, I picked up a plate at the breakfast buffet area and started filling it with the different array of breakfast foods provided by the hotel. We were silent during that period, and understandably so because this is picking food that we're talking about.
It's serious business.
Once we had gathered whatever we wanted, I lead the way to an empty table that was situated right beside a window that looked out to the street. Something drew me to that table. Probably because it was located in a more isolated area of the room and also because of the serenity of the view. But the table felt familiar for some reason.
"Is this going to be our table or something?" Shane jokingly asked with a chuckle.
"What?"
"This table...is the same one we sat in yesterday."
Right, that's why it felt familiar.
"Oh right, I picked it because the spot is pretty damn perfect. I mean look!" I gestured my arm to the window, noticing the people who were walking past.
"Yeah, that's pretty much why I sat here yesterday too. It was perfect to me."
Was it just me or did his voice get a little softer yet rougher in the second sentence? It was most likely my ears just playing tricks on me. I looked across the table at Shane as I sat down and couldn't help but let my brain over-analyse the spark in his dark brown eyes.
"Hey, why didn't Ron...and Veronica come with us? Did they have other plans?"
His first reaction, which puzzled me, was to chuckle.
I guess he saw the confusion on my face and proceeded to explain himself.
"You really don't like her, do you?"
I knew what he was talking about. And it was no point thinking that he could use that information against me because I just had this gut feeling that he wouldn't do that to me.
