Chapter 24: He Lost You

Hey guys new chapter! Please ignore weird spacings. Enjoy x.

Kayla's POV

"I guess I shall tell you a little bit about my dad first." I started with a small smile.

"He was the kind of dad that any child would be more than lucky to have. He always made sure that he was there for my brother and I, placed us before his job, took us out for fun, spent time instilling values that I think everyone should have....like appreciating whatever we have, to be independent, to respect others, to do the right thing...the morally right thing, to always want to learn, to think in different ways....gosh I can really just go on forever on this but I'm pretty sure you get my point." I noticed a soft smile on Shane's lips as he watched me describe my dad...or atleast the dad that I thought he was.

"He sounds like an amazing person."

I let out a humourless chuckle before adding, "Yeah, that's what I thought too."

I felt his hand that was behind me, making its way to my shoulder before giving me a light squeeze, prompting me to continue. I was silent for a few seconds, thinking of how I was going to say it. I've never told this to anyone. And honestly, right now, I was scared. What would he think of me after what I tell him? Will it change the way he behaves around me? I don't want that to happen.

"What are you thinking?"

"Honestly?"

"Yes, honestly."

"It's going to sound stupid."

"Just tell me."

"Fine. I'm just scared...scared that you'd change the way you think of me, and not in the good way. I'm scared you'd treat me differently. That's another reason I've not told anyone."

He sat straighter on the bench, leaned forward slightly and turned his body to face me.

I could feel his gaze burning through me as I looked down at my hands, not wanting to know how he'd react to my questions that he probably thought was ridiculous. What if he thinks I'm some insecure freak?

Well, he won't be that far off, I thought to myself.

"Hey, look at me." Hesitantly, I tilted my head upwards until my eyes met the stormy dark gaze of Shane.

"Don't be. Trust me; I won't do any of that. And if by a slim chance I do, then I give you full permission to slap me." He said as he gave me one of his heart-stopping grins, causing me to let out a laugh. He was merely inches away from me before he pulled back and relaxed back on the bench in his original position.

"Don't be silly, I wouldn't need your permission to do that." I replied haughtily, faking an attitude which earned a chuckle from both of us.
