"I wish school didn't start in a week." Newt says, putting his elbow on the kitchen table and resting his head on his hand.
"So do I." Thomas says, setting two glasses of lemonade on the table. "School sucks."
"Yeah." He says, grabbing the drink. "At least it's not ninth grade again."
"Tenth grade is bound to be so much worse." Thomas says, putting his head in his arms.
"Aw, no, it won't." Newt says, messing with his hair. He puts his hand on Thomas's cheek, making him look at him. "It'll be great, okay?" Thomas looks at him skeptically. "It will." Newt says, a slight smirk on his face.
"What the hell is that look?" Thomas asks, looking at him.
"I dunno, Tommy," He says. "What is this look?"
Thomas breathes in slightly. "Right..."
Newt rolls his eyes, smiling. He leans across the table and kisses him. "You really are so oblivious, Tommy." He says.
Thomas opens his mouth but doesn't say anything.
Newt laughs. "Anyway, tenth grade won't suck. It won't be horrible. It won't be worse than ninth grade. It could be the best year of your life. You have no idea."
"I guess..." Thomas says, sighing.
"I," Newt says. "Will make it the best year of your life."
"Oh yeah?" Thomas says.
"Mhm." He says, nodding.
Thomas's breath hitches. "I'm just gonna..."
Newt laughs, smirking. "You really are easy to mess with, you know that?"
Thomas sighs, rolling his eyes. "Quit it."
"But it's fun." Newt says, laughing slightly.
"Quit it!" He says, laughing, shoving him.
Newt shrieks and falls out of the chair. "Hey!" He says, standing up. "That hurt!"
"I didn't mean to, I'm sorry." He says, still laughing.
"You suck." Newt says. "I'm leaving."
"This is your house." Thomas says.
"Leaving the room." He clarifies, walking up the stairs.
"No, come back!" Thomas says, running after him. "I'm sorry!"
He stands at the bottom of the stairs, leaning against the railing, still laughing.
"Yeah, I bet you are." Newt says, though he's grinning too.
"Are you hurt?" Thomas asks. "Because I swear I didn't mean to."
"I'm fine." He says, folding his arms, a smirk playing across his face. "And if I thought you meant to, there would be a whole different problem."
"I'm sorry." Thomas says, still smiling. "Please come back."
Newt doesn't say anything. He looks at Thomas for a minute before walking down the stairs, putting his hands on his face and kissing him. Thomas puts his hands on his hips and pulls him closer.
"I'm forgiven, then?" Thomas asks, grinning.
"Shut up so I can kiss you." Newt says.
Thomas does and Newt reconnects their lips.
"Look at this," Newt says, throwing a pile of papers on his desk. "There's like three billion classes I have to choose from and it's so fucking annoying."
Thomas gets up and sits in the chair next to him.
"Tommy, there isn't really room-" He starts.
"Shut up." He says. "Show me the paper."
Newt laughs, smiling. He hands him the paper. Thomas picks up a paper and makes some marks.
"There." He says. "Now we're in all the same classes."
Newt smiles. "Great. Now," He says. "Let's go. I don't want to think about school anymore."
Thomas hops up and grabs his hands, pulling him up too. Newt falls against him, but he doesn't straighten up. He wraps his arms around the other boys neck and kisses him.
"I thought we were leaving." Thomas says, smirking.
"Eh," He says. "There's more important things to do."
"Such as?" Thomas says.
"You." He says.
"You did not just-" Thomas says.
Newt grins. "I'm kidding. But kissing you is one."
"Yeah, that is pretty important." Thomas says. "You know, if I get an opinion."
"If that's your opinion, then yeah." Newt says. "Now stop talking."
Thomas bites his lip, tempted to say more but he doesn't. Newt presses their lips together. He puts his hand under the hem of Thomas's shirt.
"What are you doing?" Thomas says.
"Nothing if you won't shut your mouth." He says.
And Thomas does, grinning slightly.
"It's the last day of summer, Tommy." Newt says while they both sit in the backyard. "We should do something stupid."
"What exactly do you have in mind?" Thomas asks.
"I dunno." Newt says. "We should do something that either almost kills us or winds up with us both in a lot of trouble. Or something illegal. We could do that too."
"I don't think any of those things are good ideas." Thomas says.
"That's the point." Newt says. "We need to do something stupid. It's summer. We're teenagers. We need to do something stupid."
Thomas thinks. "Well, what do you want to do?"
"Hmm..." Newt says. "We should throw a party with lots of beer and then jump off a third story window drunk."
"Terrible idea." Thomas says. "That is a really, truly, terrible idea."
"Why don't you get that that's the point?" Newt says. "But fine. We could...go hang out with some older kids and they can drive us somewhere on motorcycles and we can pass out in an alley."
"There are many flaws with that plan." Thomas says.
"Well, I don't know!" Newt says, throwing his hands into the air. "We could get illegal surgery in Mexico."
"What?" Thomas says.
"Ooo!" Newt says. "We should totally leave the country!"
"Okay, you are never allowed to come up with ideas ever again." Thomas says.
"We need to have one last adventure, Tommy." Newt says.
"Let's go on a road trip." He says. "That isn't dangerous, it is mildly illegal, considering we both lack driver's licenses, and it is bound to get is a whole lot of trouble, possibly with the police."
Newt smiles. "Yeah, let's do that. You're plans are so much better."
"Oh, I know." Thomas says. "Let's go. We have to leave soon or else."
"Or else what?" Newt asks.
"We'll run out of time." Thomas says. "So come on."
Newt grins, standing up, taking his hand. "Alright, Tommy. Let's go."
