Sitting and talking with Genma was fun, he had always been good with making you laugh and putting your worries at ease. He didn't pressure you to talk more about his feelings or his confession, he just sat there engaged in the story of your last six months. He asked questions and showed sympathy when you talked of how you sort of missed it.
"Oh I forgot to ask you, what did the DR say?" his eyes motioned down to your very large belly. Your happy mood took a quick nose dive, the thought of telling him you were pretty sure they weren't his was killing you inside.
Taking a deep breath you decided that being honest was the only way to drop news like this so you just let it out as gently as you could.
"He said that both of them are healthy, also said that they are both boys" you said with a smile.
"Both of them? There are two?" he asked excited.
"Yes, I learned that while I was away" you explained.
"Wow" he said reaching his hand out to lightly rub your stomach.
"That's not all though" you said taking his hand from your belly and holding it in your hand tightly. His eyes had a little less sparkle at your words, but he didn't let his face falter.
"We tested their DNA, and Kakashi was a match" you paused taking a deep breath "But only for one of them" you said. His face changed to one of obvious confusion, his forehead wrinkling and his eyes narrowing at you.
"I don't understand" he finally said.
"I didn't either at first, apparently it's not something very common but it can happen. The babies are twins but have different fathers." You stated simply.
"So Kakashi is father to one, but you don't know on the other one yet?" he asked.
"I don't have scientific proof, but I'm positive on whose it is" you said not being able to meet his gaze anymore.
"Oh" was all he said. He looked away, chewing on the inside of his lip to keep from tearing up. "So it's not mine...." He said after a few seconds of silence.
"I really don't think so, with the time line I'm pretty sure it's Itachi's." it hurt you to say it out loud to him but you knew it was for the best. "I'd still like to test your DNA to be sure though" you added.
"Of course" he said with a nod, he still couldn't meet your eyes yet.
"I'm sorry this news is hurting you, this wasn't something I hoped for" you said gently squeezing his hand.
"I know.... To be honest I let my mind run away with thoughts of a future with you and I let myself believe in them too much" he said shaking his head. His mind drifted off for a second in flash backs of the life he had imagined.
