Chapter 49

Talking with Konkuro was fun, he was always a sweet guy but a little too flirty at times. He had fallen asleep at some point so you just sat in silence next to him waiting for your team to come back. As the hours ticked by you became more and more nervous about their well being. Someone had come by to offer you food but you didn't accept just paced back and forth inside the hospital room, Konkuro had even left at one point and had yet to return which only made you worry more.

When the door finally swung open you jumped having been lost in your own mind. Your team stumbled in, dirty and looking rather exhausted, Gai Sensei was also there with his team and they looked the same. Kakashi spotted you and his face lightened slightly, you couldn't help it and sprinted towards him. He caught you with ease and held you close to his body, he released a heavy sigh and his body relaxed slowly to your touch.

"What took you so long?" you mumbled into his chest.

"We ran into a few....... complications, luckily we made it back in one piece" he explained, his voice sounded tired and weary.

"How's Gaara?" you asked pulling back from him.

"He is alive but he was pretty bad when we found him" Kakashi explained, you could tell he was holding back details.

"I wish I had been there to help" you said, it was hard to hide the anger from your tone

"Its better that you weren't, I needed to focus on the enemy and I would've been too worried about you" he countered.

"I'm not some precious flower that cant protect myself!" you said grumpily looking up at him.

"There is a difference between precious and fragile, I in no way think you are fragile, I know you could handle yourself. You are however very precious to me, and I would do anything I could to keep you from harm." His tone was sweet but didn't dissipate the anger you felt. You just wanted to be treated like part of the team, you had trained for years to be this strong and yet the moment you could use those skills you get sent home to sit like a dog.

"I still should've been there, if I had been on any other team I would've been useful." You scolded.

"If you want to be treated as part of the team, then act like it. Don't run off in the middle of a mission to go see your ex" He snapped.

"Wow, tell me how you really feel" you scoffed and stepped away.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said it like that" he said trying to pull you back to him.

"No, don't worry about it. You said what needed to be said" you crossed the room and took a seat "Let me know when its time to go" you said sitting and crossing your legs.

It was a few hours until the group had rested enough to head back to the village. When it was time to go, everyone said their goodbyes and took off in a slow jog towards home. The group was oddly silent the whole way home, conversations were limited to instructions from Kakashi. Even Naruto was oddly silent, you thought that what happened to Gaara was weighing heavy on his mind. He did perk up when the gates of the village came into view and you even pushed harder to get home faster.

Once inside the gate you quickly separated from the group to find your sons, it was early morning which meant Genma should be out on their daily walk. You knew the path he always took and started a rapid search for them. Your heart skipped a beat when you saw the back of him, strolling through town, the boys in his arms.

"Genma!" you called out, he abruptly stopped and turned towards your voice. His face lit up in a huge smile and he moved quickly towards you, the boys faces lit up as you got closer.
